Help!
I am trying to make my defender a little more comfortable inside, has anybody managed to do anything about the following defender issues?
Dust ingress...on dusty tracks, the dust comes in through the rear door seals and (I think) the panels behind the rear lights...quite a lot of dust!
Sound proofing....to reduce engine and road noise in the cabin
Speakers.....I can upgrade the stereo easily, but I'm not sure where to fit some bigger better speakers......the factory ones are completely useless above about 50kph
Thanks,
Martin

Defender issues

Put subs in it!!!!!!!
Just kidding. Take it to a GOOD upholsterer. Tell him your noise issue and then get him to quote pulling up all the carpet and then putting sound proofing underlay in.
The dust could be a case of adjusting the strikers inward on the door closing pins or sliding the door hinge mounts to do the same.

Sure do.
There's a bloke over at Taren Point, his shop is/was on Captain Cook Drive between Cawarra Rd and Endeavour Rd/Resolution Dr on End Rd/Res dr side.
UBD P334
Down the driveway from a mechanic out the front. If you have made it to End Rd/Res Dr you have gone too far.
We used to convert Benz vans for passenger use and these guys used to do an excellent job. That and they used to always be reupholstering vintage Jags and Rollers, seemingly non stop.
Just can't remeber their name..........

To improve the sealing adjust the door strikers in a few mm so they actually compress the seal when the door is shut. That helps a lot. They drift loose over time, I have to adjust them about once a year. I also used some windscreen sealant behind the seals in the corners or where the seal looked less compressed.
I installed some Blaupunkt box speakers in the rear of the 90, high up in the corners beside the door. They've been surprisingly good there, out of the way and with good sound. I think they benefit from being at head height. A sub also helps a lot of you can find somewhere to fit it.
