Pedes - With or Without Inner Tubes?

Post by Deano »

Guys,

Getting my new 35" x 11.5" 'pedes next week.

Have read here of guys running them with inner tubes. Is this a must do, or an optional thing? Why do it?

Note - Not beadlocked at this time.

Cheers,

Deano

Go with out tubes as at low presures you end up with the tubes moving and brakeing the valves of

If you're going to run the tubes get the simex ones, they are really thick, I run these, haven't broken a valve yet, if the sidewall gets pushed in - seperated from rim, no pressure gets lost.
If you run pressures low enough that the valve breaks you need beadlocks

We ran 35 pedes on reversed rims with simex tubes in a T/D Gq Tray and never had an issue with tubes.
Another bloke in the club in an EFI petrol GQ Wagon running the 35 pedes with simex tubes, regularly spun tubes, sometimes busting valves.
I think that you're better of with no tubes with std rims, and get some mechanical beadlocks when funds permit on the rims you have.

I have deflated down to 16 in a comp without tubes and had no probs. So either way. Save your money for somthing like second air if you need them,i.e if you are going to compete.Cheers.

Nothing is wrong with 2nd airs..........I just reckon that mechanical beadlocks are far more practical as mud doesn't get in the beads which leads the 2nd air tube to eventually pop, leaving you with no beadlock when you think you have got one and mechanical bead locks are waaaaaay more bush freindly when it comes to repairs.
Oh and the GQ wagon now runs 2nd airs and has had some problems.

I dont wanna go off topic but the question was asked.

We've robbed the topic now .....
I believe a few times, but during the Ateco it was happening to a few trucks. The big prob is that if you dont regularly check them and just put them on, iut's too late to do anything about it when youre off road. They do work great and are fantastic, but I think they require just as much maintenance, if not more, than mechanical ones. And this maintenance is way easier done in the workshop.
It may be a lack of maintenance that is causing the problem, starting bad reports, rather than the product.

Cool. I just invested in 5 so this helps me for future comp work. So it is somthing that happens over time from lack of maintanance "bugger more stuff to do" . So before each comp it is advised to pull them down and clean the dirt out. I guess thats what navies are for. ;)

Dude, I have run Pede's for the last 2 years. They are on my daily driver , 84 Hilux.
They have been a great tyre, Have never had a puncture, Are great in the wet, etc. etc.

I run mine on cruiser offset rims with NO tubes. I run them at 10 pound for general wheelin, But for comps like Q-rock etc I always run them at 8 Pound , NEVER had a tyre come off. 1 time at LCMP while rockcrawlin i had 1 go down to 4 & did not realise till later & it never came of the rim.

I recon they are a great tyre.

I run them on my Hilux and I'm always having trouble with popping beads at low pressure. I have ordered some heavy wall Simex tubes with heavier valve stems and I'll be trialling these at even lower pressures at the Nissan Trials

I think it depends on what you drive and where you drive it, all over Oz we have different terrain and different conditions.

Probs with second airs normally come from not adj pressure in locks to suit air in tyre.
