Nissan Turbo
Nissan Turbo
Was able to obtain a Turbo off a wrecked and burnt patrol this morning
Vast majority of the car is cooked and useless however, the fire never really reached down to the Turbo.... (rubber pipes etc are all in one piece)
Intake and exhaust manifolds are still on the wreck until I get time to go back and remove them but I have the bulk sitting here. After cleaning it up I have found "HT15-B" on the alloy casting. Turbo still spins if I stick my finger into the housing and give it a poke... of course if its usefull I would have it rebuilt anyway.
The engine appears different to my GQ 4.2 and I cant identify the original engine simply because I dont know enough about them and the compliance plates are melted off :( Its a 6 cylinder, Diesel, disk front and drum rear and of course was Turbo'd... Most Glaring difference is that this one appears to have a finned/ridged rocker cover rather than the smooth casting of mine.
Any and all info as to its usefulness welcome
Cheers
Daniel

Re: Nissan Turbo
You didnt mention if the donor vehicle was GQ/MQ
If its a genuine Nissan Turbo it will be a 2.8 as Nissan never imported the 4.2 Turbo.

2.8s are 4 wheel discs all around.
would be a sd33t would it:?
After a really crappy week at work I finally got back to take some shots of this poor old Nissan... Apologies for the quality in some, I had to be quick before they noticed the Ambulance was missing

From the shots I am assuming it was a 2.8 and figure the rescued Turbo will be too small for the 4.2 :( Fuel tank looks remarkably similar to the long range tank in my GQ 4.2 though ...
Thoughts?

Turbo MK
Ok - Its an MK Turbo I can tell you that much.. (MQ never came in TD) I only know this because my turbo was stuffed - did a bit of damage to her it seems and it was only the second time out on the highway!!!! Most annoyed.
The HB15T is the same as mine because I noticed the odd serial number compared to the other Garretts I have played with on petrols (put a GT25 rollerbearing on a petrol L28 with a bit of work done on the motor and the injection from a 280zx and sat and watched it destroy a new set of AT's in a few minutes.... SMOKED HARD!!!!!) and I know trade price @ the cheapest possible place in sydney was $950 for rebuild... I ended up scrapping my TD because I would never get my money back if I wasted a grand on turbo... I still have it al nicely cleaned up and dismantled with all lines, fittings, brackets, pipes, clamps, manifolds etc etc which are in for sale section if anyone interested - Turbo a SWB MK and it makes a heck of a difference - I cruised up and down Mt Uzily near wollongong in 5th gear no problems (stuffed turbo when I got patrol airborne over zebra crossing 500m from home.....) pulled my truck in 5th all the way from Heathcote to Albion park with no gear changes and back again.... awesome.
Hence being of an MK TD it will be an SD33T motor it came off - completely different from the GQ motor.
I MAY be interested in purchasing it if you are interested in sellin it and its not too stuffed by the fire - I only want the shaft out of it anyway.
Cheers

Its fairly plain its not much good to me except for swaps
I can only assume by the condition of the rubber hoses / connectors that it was largely unaffected by the fire. If you have some bits and pieces laying around you dont want / need anymore then we might be able to swing something because I simply wouldnt feel right taking cash from someone for something that was given to me for a few skinned knuckles, 2000 flies and a pissed off missus
