Snorkel Info

Post by Shorty40 »

I want to make up a snorkel for the 40.

I dont like the look of the safari type ones. Or any of the external types.

I want to run one through the firewall in to the glove box or under the dash.

So I was thinking of using the 80mm (or so) convoluted tube from the EFI TB through the fire wall to a K&N type pod filter.

But what I need is some way to seal the throttle body. At the moment it just has a standard V8 type air cleaner. I was thinking an LPG setup ???

Any thoughts or tips ? What have others used ?

snorkel

do you want to get head whilst driving????

seriously though, wouldn't that be really loud, k&n filters are noisy for induction.

Just a thought.

Venting a snorkel into the cabin is not a very good idea......noise, smells from the engine......backfiring through the carby would also not be a good look!!!!!!

Why are you so worried about how it looks??? Its a 40 series for god's sake....not the prettiest thing with or without a snorkel!!

Make your own with some exhaust tube, powder coat it the colour you want. Either get it bent to fit or use combo of 90 and 45 deg rubber corners from a truck air cleaner joint. :P :P :P :P

Strongly suggest you DO NOT put in the cabin of the vehicle!!!!

bigbluemav - I am not concerned about venting a snorkle in the cab as I dont really have a cab to speak of ;) I have 2 seats and a roll cage. I dont have a carby to backfire (EFI V8). Noise and smell - mmmmmm It is a soft top, V8 cruiser on 38" SuperSwampers :P . And I dont really want an external snorkel as it is just another thing to get ripped/bashed off the rig

I basically want to know what is the best way to seal the throttle body so I can run the convoluted tubing to an air cleaner.

Thanks

We used to put them into the cab all the time,L/R's with Holdens ,LJ 50s and 80s,SJ410s,aTD42GQ and a Ford Exploder to name but a few.
What did people do before snorkles were commercially available?,stay out of water?
What induction noise are you going to hear in a 40?
As a rule we left the filter under the bonnet and just piped the air from the cab,so for road driving you just took the hose off the filter to reduce noise.
