LSD in front?

LSD in front?
Anybody wheeled with an LSD in the front? I'm thinking of getting it shimmed up to a point where it is a benifit but still allow steering. Anybody been able to find this middle ground?

i dont think that matters in realation to the locker, youll granade it, pending what size tyre you have and how hard you drive.

I would strongly recomend not running a lockright in the front as most times if you break a CV the recoil will destroy the lockright. Which you will have a much greater chance at doing once locked as you will tend to drive harder stuff.
I dont care what others say or think they have driven with a lockright they are a inferior diff lock and i would never run one in the front.I could be tempted in running one in the rear as the chances of snapping a rear axle and causing a recoiling shock is very slim.
If you want a difflock then buy an ARB or run a spool if you dont mind never being able to unlock it.
Regarding the Question at hand..............
I have run an LSD in the front before and did for quite a long time and it was realy a waste of time it didnt make any noticable difference at all except making the steering a little heavier.

I had a Lokka Lockright in the front of my lux and the massive power of the 3y sheared all the pins off!!
I now run a LSD with some added help :wink: :wink:

Looks like I'll just have to save a few more pennies & buy an air locker for the frt then. Bugga, was hopen for a cheaper option. Ahh well.....

ps - currently running 32x16's. Looking at going up to 33's if I can stop the tyres from rubbing on the rear inner guards.

has anyone on here run a truetrac limi slip in the front?
seems like a good way to go if you dont want a full locker...
...although it costs nearly as much!
I have an IFS lux and Im thinking a full locker might be asking for trouble with the puny little diff and CVs.

The IFS will be stronger with the ARB fitted, as the backing plate on the crown wheel is thinner than normal hiluxs and as a result they flex when you put load on them and this then means you are running on the outer parts of the teath.
By puting the ARB in you replace this part with the locker.
I know i busted 3 diffs in about 1 year!!!
The CV's i would imagine to be similar strength to a normal lux!

My mate Baz has a Lokker (4wd Systems Lockright copy) in the front of his turbo diesel live axle Hilux (lsd rear) and it works really well. He hasn't broken anything in 12 months with some hard wheelin. Baz tries to idle up most things so as not to bust stuff so far it has worked for him.
Another mate has one in the front of his IFS V6 4 Runner (about 18 months) and blew a outer CV recently on Rocky Tk. Steve tends to barge his way through stuff so he tends to bust things more often.
One thing to remember with a IFS locked front is to back the power off before the lifted wheel hits the deck again, too much power being fed in when that lifted wheel hits terra firma will trash a CV immediately especially Toyo IFS stuff as it is a bit on the fragile side.

Its ok Stepho myself and Nick were just talking the other day about the fact that just about every person that has a big block chev deisel says its from a hummer when 9 times out of ten its actually from a chev truck. He wasnt putting chit on you.

Brunswick were the ones that said the engine was more than likely out of a Hummer. I only care that it makes the old girl driveable now, compared to the old 2H. & with better fuel economy!!
