we managed to drive stage 3 on saturday with about 90 points i think, made the hillclimb at the end first shot.
the creek was flowing and the rocks were very muddy and had some big side leans and huge holes.
going in via a steep downhill track of wet black soil was "interesting", just give it a bootfull at the last second to get control back for the corner at the bottom.
recovered one competitor from the creek bed and one from the track in, also two club members from the track in, they were bogged to the sills in the black soil.
so by the time i got to stage two and my turn came up, it rained and they called it a day.

So how did the weekend go?
I spoke to Criss Ierssel tonight and he said there were a lot of people up there and a fair bit of carnage.

So did the change of venue work out like you hoped?

saturday night under lights was too wet for a comp so it was "play time" for those who wanted to, one black zuke on its side and a lot of others going no where, was good to watch but i gave it a miss.
lots of valve bouncing, near misses and mud flying kept the crowd amused.

the move to LMP is a good one, more spectators and some new competitors.

saw Mark Reilly (outback challenge legend) he thinks the ASCC is as hard as nissan trails.

we had hard tracks for both production class and modified. anyone who drove the tracks are legends, these tracks were really hardcore.

sunday morning we lined up for stage two and drove it until about 20 metres from the end and then got hung up,badly!
couldn't get off and drive shaft was leaving sparks so we had to get recovered and DNF'd.
the winch rope broke [ must have got kinked on saturday ] so they winched me out and they let me have a go at the hillclimb at the end.
I thought , bugger it, and went for the hard points and failed so got no points for it.
i dont know how many points we got for that stage.

There were some nice cars up there. TOTALLY dominated by nissans. ONly about 5 or 6 toyatas and the remainder mainly was nissans :(

Bubs came 3rd in both track one and the hillclimb. His bullbar is fuKed and tie rod is bent like an s. Look at the pick. U can see how the winch part at the front is bent down. Dad says its fuKed.
Whats up!!

i thought it was a really good event from a spectators point of view, the night stages and sunday stages in the gully were really good for spectating looking down at all the competitors. i hope to be competing at the next round :D

after stage two we did stage one and drove it, bloody hell it was hard so when we completed it i was as happy as a teenager in a free brothel.
the winner of this stage over all was mitzi staib, her husband paul DNF'd this stage when he broke a CV so is she gunna rub it in.
I forgot to count the points before we handed the sheet in but there was heaps.
this creek was also running and the rocks were very slippery and i had to really nail it to get up the mini rock gorge, the next bit on a corner over large rounded rocks caught most people out as they slipped over the edge with there lockers pushing them straight ahead, this was probably the only section where not having lockers gave us an advantage.

thanks for that glen, i reckon it was a fair bit harder than last year and the rain made it harder still so i was pretty happy with how we went and the little damage we did, for the record it was a bent rear mudguard on the tray, a broken off part of the side bars that ran under the sill line and a bit of paint off the bars , oh and a winch rope.
i was p'd off about getting stuck on stage two as we had clean sheeted until then. looks like we got 130 points trying to get out...oh well, all part of the fun

after we had finished we headed to the main gorge [ can anyone think of a good name for it :?: ] to watch the " vertical assault" and watched as someone was pulled out with a breakage, we lined up and had a slow tester and then nailed it in second low but didn't have enough speed and was a couple of inches from getting over so next time we nailed it in third low and got over the crest but then ran out of puff, we took of no problems in first and made it over the top. this was our only claim to fame, the first nissan to make it...[ i wont tell you how many made it after that :( ]
The ones who made it then lined up for a steeper hill with absolutely no runup, kim bolton made it, bobtail made it in glens rover and i'm not sure if anyone else made it, we only got the front wheels over the top and you only were allowed one go.
we went to watch mitzi staib on track one and heard someone rolled and couldn't turn off the motor due to turbo timer switch being out of reach...bummer.
hey glenn, how about "carnage canyon" for a name for the gully.

bit of wheel traval there shane, good shot bud.

the only cars to make the final climb in vertical assault was kim Bolton and Mick in my rover.

my new sponsor is T MAX winch, they gave me a new 10000pnd to try out, and try out I did. on saturday I did about 10 single line recoverys for track one over about 25 degree slope pulling big nissans with ease. thanks T MAX.

has factory 4.6 diffs out of a 2.8 td GU.
35 centipedes on JT beadlocks.
just fitted marks crawler gears but it was too slippery to make use of them this weekend, had to use 2nd or 3rd for most of it but still learning how to use them.
