locked light stays on in 2wd

Post by triple diamond »

on my 89 2 door diesel pajero wagon, bought used in japan, the locked light (auto front hubs) will not go out anymore. the 4wd light does go out. oddly, the first day that was the only problem and I continued driving. now the the front left wheel seems to try to lock in 2wd, noise and shocks... drives fine in 4wd. replaced the outer part of the hub(the part that fastens with allenhead bolts and a c clip) with no change.
Any suggestions?
btw, great forum!

Hi

check the vakuumtubing at the frontaxle. There is a vakuumaktor to lock the hubs. It happend at my 1999 Delica too. The tubes where damaged and the hubs remained in locked mode. If the tubes are o.k. check the vakuumsupply.

Hmmmm I'm not too familiar with the early auto hub system but I have heard they can be troublesome.
I also think they can be dangerous in certain situations like reversing down a hill a lttle bit to take another run up at an obstacle I have heard of them unlocking
My advice is to replace them with manual units from a base model Pajero.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
