Find a suitable material like aluminium, chequerplate or similar. These may not be as strong as steel but are as strong as fibreglass and not too heavy
Measure up the bit you're trying to cover and design a fastening system. The fibreglass things just use bolts I think. You could put any kind of clampy doodad you can buy on it though
Can you tell me what they cost new? I have one in mint condition, and was thinking about making a mould and selling them cheaper than the real ones. I'm sure alot of people would like that
I had a Hard top at one stage that was Damaged by way of inertia and inversion,
We had a good top half of a soft top windscreen surround , a targa roll bar section , and the little pieces that run from the targa section to the windscreen , I left half the hard top screen frame on cut the soft top screen frame to match and migged it onto the fixed lower half of the hard top screen frame , we used original inner targa mount sections from a trashed soft top , in the original position on the hard top pillars, bolted the targa in then the little peices from this to the siamesesd screen top ,
I just ran a bikini style camo top on that one , But mke SURE you use a well constructed ROLLBAR aswell .
Im ancertain but would be good if the targa bar section matched the shape and hieght of the hard top Offcourse there are the ridges in the roof to consider but ,
I have bothe hard and soft tops in the yard imight take some measurments.
will do cus its a simple solution to rust in the back like i have if i cant get it to work ill just chop the lot off and weld some checker pate to the targa bar lol
You should try to get the latches etc too, and if you can the rear wall that sits behind the seats. Its made of metal, and the maruti back bolts down onto it.
if you could get your hands on one, then buy firbeglass/ resign/hardner/ gelcoat in bulk you could probly make them for about 200 buckws each i reckon, thats with making it tough as, like 4-5 sheets of fibre glass thick. they would come out exactly the same and really smooth on the outside.
firbeglassing is really easy and somebody could make alot of money if the demand is there for these!
