rattles in the 40

what's the deal with the doors rattling so much on my 40 series? will new rubbers all round fix it? or will they eventually come back anyway?

yes new rubers will help your problem .
cheque your door catch assembly for wear ....
also the door hinge bushes wear out to .

you can adjust the door catch to try to prevent this, the U lookin thing on the door frame, loosen the two screws on it (not completely, just loosen them) and push them towards the inside of the car a bit, tighten them back up.

got 200 bucks off my shorty cause the doors rattled, and the guy selling it watched in horror as i fixed it using the above method in 5 minutes, aparently one reason he was selling was cause he couldn't stand the door rattle... ruined his rap music or something

are'nt the rattles the real reason why we all bought 40's in the first place???? Just turn up the stereo....... :lol:

I dont have a stereo, as I wouldn't be able to hear it over the rattles, wind noise, swampers and V8 anyway :lol:

My first mod was a pioneer MP3 head unit!

This rig had pumpin tunes even before it was road registered!

the rattles add to experience of owning a 40
bloody things are 30 years old and been to hell & back & still want more than you can throw at them, live with rattles or turn the stereo up if you have one, if not, ear muffs are at bunnings on special at the moment :lol:

yeah I thought this was part of the attraction

Although I did fix mine buy fitting rubber from Clark rubber, adjusting the stikers in so you have to really slam the doors hard.

i got a new door rubber from don kyatts for about 40 bucks..

but i have found that the best way to get rid of the rattles in a 40, is to buy a prado :D

are your doors square in the jams/frames?
you can also undo the bolts on your door hinges = tilt to adjust

The catch may also be worn out. Flip the catch upside down so the door mechanism is now latching on the other side. This works unless somebody else has done it before.

Another trick is to get a catch off another Toyota from the wrecking yard. There are a couple of different heights so make sure you get the right ones.
