Coil Spring Spacers

Post by BUNDERA »

I was just wondering if anybody here is using coil spring spacers. The polyurothane blocks that you fit to your coil mounts to lift the car a bitmore (I am not talking about body spacers).

I have seen them on a Patrol in 4wd Monthly a couple of moths ago and was wondering where you get them from. See if i can make the bundy's front a bit higher (more even) and if they work well then i might add a couple to each spring to give it another bit of lift.

Nick

I had some on my Rangie, i got them from Sid King at Queensland Rollers and Liners. I think that is the company name, it's in Rocklea.
If the company name is wrong Glen from Arctic Cool Treads can set you straight.

i run 35mm 80 series ones in the back of mine. good luck breaking them, but yes they do fall out, but i doubt you will have that trouble unless fitting much longer shocks. they're only 50 bucks or something so just get them and work out any problems later.

Mine were 50mm and they cost me nothing for 4. They were machined to fit so they never even looked like comming loose and they were excelent for the 30,000km i ran them in the car.

I've run them without drama. The do effectively lengthen the spring freelength, so if you have bumpstopless shocks you may need some new ones that are proportionally longer. You can get plastic specers that go over the tops of the springs, which wont fall out unless pressure comes off the spring because the shocks are too long, and you cant dislocate with them. The other type is machined up from aluminium which spaces the spring mount up from the axle. I think you can dislocate with these ones.

i had them on my GQ rear to even up the truck when it was loaded up for a cape york trip, when i busted the spring mounts at the rear the spacers still stayed in even though the springs were bowed out like a beergut.
got them from fulcrum in marooka.
hey slunnie, good to see ya here...shane

I've got a set of 1.75" coil spacers that I've just removed - but about to refit on my TJ - they're a good little investment IMHO...

Just make them yourself mate. I know of a guy here in Vic that has used bonded Marine ply to make the spacers and they work just fine, cost him about $15 all up and you can take your pic of height.
You'll find that this is one of the first options for us Jeep drivers to get a bit of lift on the cheap. I just installed 2" coil spacers on a mates TJ, they about $350 from one of the Jeep suppliers here in Vic, but really don't know if the TJ ones would suit your rig. Just remember those bumpstop extensions and if you need something to stop them from falling out just use a Yellow ARB leveler spacer.

Have fun.

If you really want to get that rugged, go to woolworths and buy a nylon chopping board and cut them out of that the same way. Timber is for furniture.

I needed to see what lift I could "get away with" on the Grand Cherokee and I didn't think $300 plus was worth a "what if" mod. So I turned up some 57mm spacers out of marine ply (three thicknesses araldyted together) and bunged 'em in on the top of the spring.
40k later - they are still there waiting on some 2nd hand springs to come my way. :)

For what it's worth - to buy spacers to about 60mm lift - it's cheaper to buy new springs!!!

I have just made some out of MDF (Now That is Dodgy!!! but is it all i had) and fitted them to the front. (I will make some out of metal when I get a chance). It has lifted the front about an inch. All I have to do now is make some for the rear.

I will post some pics soon!!

I am going for a drive now to see what it is like.

I am taking them out now as the mdf aint that strong and I dont want them to break up. They are great, thats all I can say, they lift it so easily!!

I am going to ring the number you gave me so I can get some proper ones (depending on price) that are made out of something a little stronger than (wood dust(mdf)).

I would recomend them to anybody with coils as it is an easy way to lift the vehicle on a very tight budget ($5 and a 1 or 2 cold ones!)

Thanks for the details mate, I will contact them now!

Nick
