Ground Clearance

Post by Westoztroopa »

No new topics for a while so whats everyones minimum ground clearance and where is it?
I don't have mine yet but will try and get some numbers shortly. Usually its the transfer case x-member in Isuzus but would be interesting to compare...

When I had the Frontera V6 it came with 185mm at the front & middle and the fuel tank bash plate. The diff was 200mm. I lifted the sucker to give 250mm under the thing, though the diff remained at 200mm. Made a huge difference to the offroadability of it. It was all TJM suspension and did nothing to improve the articulation, but the front ride was unreal, the rear needed some load.

I don't know if your interested in this thread, but the Disco has 210 under the diffs and 250 belly std. Mine is modified a bit and has 260 under the diffs and 400 under the belly now.

Just taken some measurements. These are really only approximate as the surface in the garage is a little uneven.
The lowest point is the rear diff at about 240mm. Transfer case bashplate which used to cause me hassles is about 290mm and the protection plate covering the extractors is the lowest point up front at approx 275mm. This plate actually had to be dropped down a bit to fit in the extractors.

Westoztrooper, what type of lift/tyres do you run on the Jack? It sounds like you have some pretty good clearance.

Running 32x11.5x15 BFGs and 2 inch suspension lift. Massive improvement over stock. Stock minimum ground clearance was supposed to be 215mm.

My rear diff is at 260mm, transfer bash plate is 330mm, front diff cross member is 325mm (rough measurements)
This will all change of course when I get a proper lift kit put in, not some dodgy half ar#ed jap 4" set up.
