Rangie Wrecked?

Post by blindreindeer »

But will the Rangie Wrecker be competing ably anyway?? The horses mouth told me very recently that the Rangie had heart problems on Sunday?

Is the beast healthy again yet Andy?

Excellent Smithers.... It seems our little furphy has had the officials scrambling. A POX ON THEM!

Blind Reindeer (we must have drinks soon) , yes your sources are correct the Rangie is wrecked. I removed the sump (nasty business) after draining three liters of radiator fluid and four liters of oil first only to find half a piston, ring lands, pieces of ring and sleeve in there. Clearly this was no good so I washed it all away but this simply was not enough as it still won't run. I am currently shopping for a new engine.

I will be in the co pilots seat in "Bob The Builder". But I must warn you that I didn't get this fat from running out winch cables. I have always had Stevie 00Zuk to do the fit bits in the Winch Challenges whilst I just steer the damn thing and enjoy a Cab Merlot in the evening. I figure if I can do the Outback Challenge as a navie I should be able to get through this one, right Marshy? Old buddy, old chum??? ;) You love it Simon.

See ya,
Andy

Hey Andrew. Remember how I said I would get you back for your little stunt at the Gold Coast 2000? Well, I get the feeling that next weekend could be the time AND the place!!!!!!...........  :finger:

Sorry guys, no spit roast, and Kate tells me there is 0.00000000000000001% chance of them being able to do them in the future. (And that figure is being generous, she tells me!!) However, the Burger Hut at the motorcross area will be selling burgers all weekend, and will do them for dinner if you tell him you want them. I didn't get all his prices, but a hamburger is $5.50, and a works burger is $6.50. Other than that, it is a case of BYO for everyone.

I'm not getting headaches anymore. I now just have a constant one. :microwave:

Oh well, hopefully it's all worth it, and all you guys enjoy yourselves.

I will warn you all however, Saturday is going to be a very long day, so make sure you get a good night's sleep on Friday. We're starting at 6am, and you won't be in bed before 11:30pm-midnight!! There's fair warning guys, I wouldn't suggest a big night on the sauce Friday night!!

See ya's all there!!!!!!

Yes, and no.

Saturday's stages are, generally, very specatator friendly. With the exception of probably one stage. Saturday night is not, and Sunday is not great, but you can see a little.

I have made Saturday the day for great spectating. You could walk between quite a few stages.

If there was anyone going up to watch Wes and the Logan Team compete there has been a major problem.

wes was involved in a single vehicle Rollover this morning on his way up to BDV  He and Craig are both OK but Wes's Range Rover is a Total write Off and the Zook and Trailer are both damaged.

Dont have the full details but he hit a kangaroo on the Warigo Hwy and this roo took out the steering link on its way under which in turn caused Wes to loose Control of the vehicle and Roll a couple of times with the trailer. Sounds like the trailer broke away in the first roll.

As i said they are both ok and lucky to be alive.

Not sure if the Logan team found a replacement vehicle in time.

Wes will prob have more to add here later on.

Well, what an event, or non-event in the logan teams case.

As RUFF said, wes our team leader wrote off his tow car and damage his zuk on the way up in the early hours of this morning. Thankfully they were both alright.

So we were one car down, luckily Shane (BigRed) was up there cause we managed to convince him to take over wes' spot. Scrutineering was a shocker, with all the teams arriving at 6.30am and taking 3 hours for scrutineering to get done. :bad-words:

Anyway, it was off to the first track of the day (SS2 in our case). We sent shane through first and i followed. shane drove it all which was lucky cause he had to winch me out of the last climb.
Halfway up the track kris put his zuk on its side and a big rock into his door, but managed to get it going again and finish the stage.

At this point, richard blew his rear diff, so daniel tried to tow him out. After many attempts, dans rear springs wrapped and in turn caused the tailshaft to snap.

Luckily shane was there as it was quite the effort to get dan's 4runner out of the gully with only front wheel drive. After 1 1/2 hrs we were out of the track.

This pretty much ended our weekend, with 2 cars broken (richard got his going again in the arvo) we decided to pack up and head home cause we'd run out of alcohol and smokes to keep us amused while watching the other competitors  ;)

So yeah, dissapointing weekend where everything seemed to be against us. and wes' run of bad luck continued which put a dampner on things.

Anyway, thats the logan team story

yes, we'll be back bigger and better

was good to see wes come up in the arvo, too bad we were already packed up and about to head home.

a huge  must go to shane and his navi chris though for jumping in and taking over the spot. we would have been farked without them, cause i couldn't imagine a zuk pulling dans car up out of that gully. so luckily they were there with the patrol and highmount :D

I spent the day up there with the OL boy yesterday and had a ball.
shorty MQ broke his gearbox 2 transfercase adapter and Scott did a RF CV both on SS1. Got Scott back up and running but the MQ was a trailer home jobby. we completed 5 stages and blitzed all bar the EATing one where Nick (the sook :) could not hold down the cooked TOUGNE. 4 techonocolour yawns latter and 4 hours he was a bit better :)
A yellow zuk ute had a big wheel stand and rolled 3 times.
When i left at 730 the guys were just heading out for the night stages hopefuly they did ok

Constructive crit!

I mean no negativity in saying this just something to think about/ please tell me if im full of shit...

I went out to watch a few of the events on the weekend friday/ sat only, and as a spectator it was a little hard to follow and even get details such a s where and when events, etc. Some others i spoke with were a little unsure also.

cheers to the one lady on the uhf who passed on a few details to which we then herded other spectators,

Hope the weeknd finished off well.

Talking with a few club members i was much happier with the attitude of your club as previously discussed) with both the group of people and the machinary!!!!

I hope everyone had a laugh on me ( Blue/silver gq wagon in the mud in the morning) All aussie adventures!

good fun!

Thats the first time i've seen a logan challenge and its a huge weekend ... much tougher than i expected.
The organisation of it must have taken a bloody long time so arms up to em
The ascc team didn't happen so when we were asked to fill in for wes and be inducted into the logan club we jumped at the chance.
Naturally enough we were picked to start at the hardest track of the lot
We headed up the gully thinking that we had driven this track a couple of years ago so it should be ok but halfway up the bunting went right ... straight up the side of the hill over virgin ground
we didn't stop to think and i just turned right and nailed it straight up and over all the logs, branches and bushes.
when we got to the top i thought ... crap... i hope antt makes it to the right turn because i didn't want to reverse back down again but the taxi made it on to the hill itself ... awesome bit of driving there :D
we dragged him up and then kris made it halfway up and we winched him up while daniel was trying to tow the busted zook up the gully.
was a bloody good try but when daniel broke as well that stuffed us.
his springs are now an "S" shape  and the tailshaft twisted off.
from what i saw on the weekend, not to many drove as far up as we did so well done guys

damn, someone must have put a jinx on me... buggered two teams in the same weekend

we didn't make it all the way up... only had the front wheels over and we decided to winch the last few feet because if we backed up a foot to try again we might have made it harder for ourselves and we didn't want to waste time or dig big holes.
it crawled up easy with no load on the winch so we probably should have given it another go but you don't know these things until after you make your descision.
I'm still amazed how far the vitara made it.
Most of the teams failed to make it in the allotted time so we didn't do as bad as we first thought.
