Woohoo - well i was stuck trying to pick out a 4x4 last week and i was convinced to buy a Pajero by some of the members here - anyways had a hunt around and found a 99 NL Escape with 150kms for 15k - Company car for an old surfie guy. Fairdinkum this car is completely brand new - never removed the little light or the tools from rear of the car, no one ever sat in the back and the rear rear seats never appear to ahve been lowered down. Drives like a brand new car and everythiong works, except the super select flashing lights issue - which doesnt seem a like a biggie
SO anyway, I was looking at Toyota Surfs and other crap and now i have this super great Pajero, which FLIES along, quite impressed with road power, already done 200kms in it today
Car has just been serviced but not by 4x4 specialists - so i will climb under tomorrow and check all levels and see if ic ant stop these lights from flashing. Only flashes in 4H :(
So am keen to go and find a puddle tommorrow and see how much i can have without breaking it

Hey, good choice. I think you'll be very impressed with your purchase.
The Super Select flashing light thing happened to mine when I first bought it but with regular 4x4 use, it sorted it self out. I think mine had never been offroad and had never had the little stick stirred so was probably a bit sticky. After a few 4b runs I never saw the prob again.
Yours may be the same, but may also be a little more technical, but definately worth a try before shelling out some cash.

YEah i was thinking the same thing, i doubt 4x4 has been enagaged before i bought it, it appears to work mechanically, just the light is wonky - i actually noticed this before i bought it and asked for it to be fixed, but i reng thier mechanic and he said he just disconnected the switch so it didint flash in 2H, but it flashes in evey other position.
Air Con is not very cold oin this car, which annoys me a lot :( Gonna have to have that serviced, need two front tyres, one of those cage type roof racks, bullbar and snorkel and i am set to start exploring the local tracks...
Anyone got any of the above gear in vic i would love to know, inc 2 x 235/75/15 Wrangler ATs.
One thing i notice is that the rear LSD must be SUPER tight cos it screeches like a CIG locker on most turns, and slower ones i can almost hear the tread being chewed off on the inside - is this normal? Have had heaps of LSds before but none as tight as this.

Welcome Begbie I think you have done very well mate and I'm sure you won't be dissappointed. For $15K thats a lot of car.
With the tow hook on the back it can be unbolted and a tow bar bolted on instead. Mine has it so if you want to swap no worries mines a little bit bent up but nothing a hammer wouldn't fix.
Frank.

If the mechanic disconnected the front switch to stop the flashing in 2WD it could be a vacuum problem not disconnecting the front RH axle. Should be pretty simple to diagnose and correct.
I know that incorrect oil in a clutch type LSD can cause it to "chatter" - replacing the rear diff oil, using a decent LSD oil, might fix the problem. My diff doesn't have any indication on it that it needs LSD oil, so somebody may have used the wrong stuff in yours.
Cheers,
Scott
