First mod- water tank

Seeing as it's a bit quiet in here of late, I'll talk about my first mod- a water tank.

It's a budget home made job consisting of 100mm diameter PVC water pipe mounted up above the chassis crossmember below the driver. The outlet is plumbed to come out through the chassis rail (convenient hole already there) just behind the passenger side door. Currently it will hold about seven litres, but I'm looking at extending the tank and making it larger.

It isn't quite finished yet, with some plumbing to be done to hook it all up. The good bit is it all bolts in using existing captive nuts or holes- no drilling of the chassis is required.

One of the mods I used to have in the back of my Rocky, was a pair of water tanks, home built (of course) that sat over the rear wheel arches. Plumbed together, and drained firstly by a caravan type hand pump, then finally gravity fed to the passenger door. Built out of gal sheet, together they had a capacity of about 55 litres. That, and the capacity of our campervan tank ment our family of four could get by for almost a week away b4 having to think about accessing water. Maybe a little bit stinky by weeks end, but it can be done. I saw an interesting article in a 4wd mag here a couple of months ago. It showed a landie with a small tank on the back, made of pvc, mounted inside the spare wheel on the back door, only small capacity, like 3 or 4 litres, but enuf to wash your hands a couple of times if ur in the mud or similar.

Mine is primarily for washing hands, possibly water for the dog- and in an emergency I suppose we could even drink it!
