" Doh day out "

Post by Andy »

G-day all , Had a pretty eventful day out yesterday , went out three other cars to the Alkimos then to Willibinga ( coastal beach runs ) My mishap started out the previous weekend when I fitted some Monroe shocks which had a 120mm longer travel then my current shocks and had heaps of compression length to spare , so the revolvers and the shocks worked well together . Anyway , all was going well cruising up and down sand hills , following our course when we came up to a favorite little ( big ) hill climb , being trip leader I was first to try the climb . Being fully loaded with tool box , fridge , kids , the usual stuff , I gave it heaps and started my climb , after the second deep rutt I heard a mighty big thump from the rear , on the third rutt I heard it again but louder . I let the peddle go after that and the Feroza stalled . It was a steep angle to get out to find out what the clunks were so I tried to start it up again ,,,,,,,,,, nothing !!! After about 10 min's of denial I took the caps off the battery to find no water , Doh . All the plates inside were all nackerd , no saving it . After getting back on flat ground I found that the leaf springs had flatternd out on the drivers side and the clunking sound , well the oil coming out of my new shocks explained that , yep I was pissed off and a long way from home

Cos I would have been really upset if I broke a set of rancho's , I was told they are as good as " Oldman emu's " , I wanted a shock that would give me more travel with out loosing compression size , wouldn't have had any probs with them if the leaf springs weren't sitting flat , If I put weight on the drivers side rear the leaf springs bend over , the shocks are taking all the weight , in other words there stuffed .
