gq speedo correction feedback

Post by holeyhardtop »

just thought i'd post up what ive done. have a gq with 4.1's and fitted 33's on the w/end. before i fitted the speedo correction gear it was indicating 2250rpm =100kph. after speedo gear installed 2190=100kph actual. if i sped up to 2250rpm=107kph so i would have got done in nazi vic. for speeding without the correct gear.

gear p/n 32703-31g16 courtesy of a 'bazzle' post. cost $49 from nissan, cheaper than a fine as my missus drives the truck occasionally and would forget to drive slower than indicated. maybe i would too. :?

also took a little while to find the speedo input on the g/box as i didn't realise they were electronic so i was looking for a cable like an xy ford i once had  . had a little bit of fun punching out the cotter pin but no real dramas.
hope this helps someone as this site has been sensational so far for me. ta.

Good call :D , just fitted 35's on the weekend, had my bucks nite last nite and my missus drove me home from Melbourne this morning, had to remind her coming up to the cameras on the westgate that she is actually doing probably 10k's more than the speedo says, she's got a mega lead foot too! Where did you get the gear from?

Thanks for the info.
Am about to put 33's on myself and was wondering about speedo correction.
Just curious....Diesel or Petrol and how do you find the performance now?

Thanks again

Diff ratio Tyre size Speedo gear

3.9 31 16
33 15
35 14
37 13
Description Pinion-Speedome
4.1 31 17
33 16
35 15 Part Number 32703 - 31G 17
37 14

4.375 31 18 Change last 2 digits for gear you need.
33 17
35 16
37 15

4.625 31 19
33 18
35 17
37 16

all of the above is courtesy of 'bazzle'.

based on this if you have 4.1 gears and 35 tyres you need gear p/n 32703-31g17. these are available from your local nissan thief 'cough' i mean dealer. just quote the part no. as they have no idea what you want.

have fun.

I've got 4.2 Diesel, standard gearing too, I think bugger all difference on the flat but noticed it dropped off more on the hills on the highway, will probably really notice it power wise when I've got the bike trailer on full loaded.

Thanks for the info, great stuff! Off to my local Nissan theif this week then!

chookman it's a wagon diesel 4.2 weapon. personally i think it drives smoother with 33's than with the 31's but can't put my finger on exactly why. i'm glad i did it.

fyi i only have a 2" susp lift but have no rubbing on compression, have 15x8 cruiser offset rims. front mudflaps had to go or they would have got torn off at full lock so will make up something to replace them this week.

Is there a way to tell which gear is mounted stock without dismantling it ?
My speedo si off about 10% with the 255/85's and in order to get the whole tyre-size-junk approved here the speedo has to be corrected.
