Hi there, I've just put a set of 35" muddies on and they're great, but on full lock they're rubbing slightly on the radius arm . They're mounted on standard GU rims (16X8), I now know I should have offset rims, so will get these early next year, whats the best way to solve this short term and cheap (buidling house, getting married, I'm farked finacially!).
Can I use wheel spacers?
If so how would one inch do?
Me thinks they're not legal, is that the case?
It would prob cost as much to get the wheel spacers as it would to buy new cruiser offset rims ............or u could atleast get second handys for much less ............
Yeah, well didn't realise how bloody expensive they are, just got on the big balls site and had a look! Shit, looks like I'll be getting new rims before I get wheel spacers!
Have you thought of just adjusting the bolts that limit you steering lock. They are on the steering knuckle from memory. This is the $3 fix (if the bolts arelong enough it is $0)

On mine they are on either side of the front axle. Pretty sure the actuall bolts are on the inside bit of the hub (between the wheels) - The big ball looking thing on the end of the axle, well the bit that goes around that has a bolt on the front (outside bit) that holds nothing (think it had a nut also on it, lock nut style).
These will limit the steering lock. After awhile they do get bent and look abit tatty.
When I first got my car some knob took mine off when I had a axle seal and re grease. This allowed to much steering lock, which was great until the CV broke.

I dont think I need it for clearance. But there is a good chance since it limits steering lock abit that the cv will last longer.
They're pretty pissy little bolts, these are the ones that come out of the knuckle behind the housing? One on either side where they hold the knuckle in one peice. Mine have got build up on the ends of em, so they don't look like they've been stopping anything? Might have had the same problem as you.

That sounds like them. Mine didnt have any build up. They just werent there. When the new CV went in the mech told me about it and said thats why the CV probably broke. To much steering lock. SO they fixed it.
When you can get some rims have a look at the Rock Crawler rims. Very strong. They are off set something like 17mm from memory. What ever the off set is I dont have any rubbing and they're just inside the flares.
The spacers are illegal for on road use.
Mate put some on the back of his cruiser and within 1 month had both wheels come off. The bolts holding the spacers on sheared off!!

winding the steering stops out to fit bigger rubber is illegal in qld (at least). flog ya gu rims for a pretty penny and buy roh's. you might just end up with cash in hand as well.

Alright, have done the deed and that fixed the problem nicely, I don't think they were set up properly anyway, cos they had about 5- 10mm of grease built up on the end! Will get some new rims in Jan, what are rockcrawlers worth per rim?

I paid about $105 each but think they might have gone up. That was for 16x8's.
I think the ROH rims are a bit thin for anything serious.
