'99 RR 4.0 throttle surge & ZF22 fault message

Post by Hardy »

This is a weird one, only just started happening 2 days ago but increasing in frequency.

When I slow down after driving more than 5 mins, almost to a stop (traffic lights or driveway) with foot off throttle and on brake, the engine does a little surge for about 1 sec - enough for the car creep forward (overcomes light brake pressure)
This accompanied by a quick flash of the orange engine icon on the dash. Then the next time it happens, GEARBOX FAULT appears in message centre. Once this message appears the surging seems to stop.
The tacho doesn't seem to move with the throttle surge either.
Turning off the ignition and back on resets the problem and the sequence begins again.

Any clues from you wise men of rover?

Thanks,
Hardy

Ummm - the only time I have heard of a gbox fault code in a p38 is when the battery needs replacing. I know it sounds strange but I have seen it on a two. Just a thought

Yeah, nah.
She's already got a brand spanking new battery about a month ago.
The only other time I got a gbox fault message was about 6 months ago when I slipped it into gear too soon after changing from low to high - before the beeping had stopped.

Thanks though.

No worries - sorry I can't be of any more help.
