New Xtreme Tyre

Post by mudtoy »

I will be picking up the first set of the new Silverstone Xtremes today. 50 pieces of this awesome AFFORDABLE tyre have landed in Vic.

I will also post once I have picked them up and have seen them in the flesh.

The first shipment will be 35x11x16. They are a 6 ply tyre that combines bias ply and tubeless radial construction and should retail for around $300.

They will be exclusively available through Brawn 4x4 in Vic.

Let me know on any updates as these tyres look pretty cool! Will these tyres be at the show this weekend? Do they come in a 15 rim as well? Cheers, Kane.

Not sure how it works myself but basically you get the strength of the bias ply with the carcass quality that supports tubeless capabilities.

Brawn 4x4, 03 9798 8522. I am picking up my sponsored tyres today which will be the ones at the 4x4 show on the weekend! Can't wait.

Manufacturers have been working towards combining bias ply and tubeless qualities for some time now. No idea how though.

So is it going to be just tyres at the show, or your rig with the new tyres on it?

Under the ADR's it is illegal to fit a bias ply tyre to a vehicle not originally offered with them by the manufacturer.

So ALL BIAS PLY TYRES ARE "LEGAL" for road use if DOT approved, but cannot legally be fitted to 4x4's that weren't specced with bias ply tyres. So that is every 4x4 made after about 1985 (or even earlier).

So all bias ply tyres are illegal to use in Australia on road?

Those tyres look sick. Where else will you be able to get them from?

No it depends what 4x4 you have. Bias ply tyres are legal on my Series Landie, but not my Defender. Likewise they are legal on 40/45 (and maybe 55) series cruzers, early suzuki's, etc, etc.

Look in the MT117 thread below for other suppliers.

As with the Mt117 and the MT117 Sport, the MT117 Xtreme is Dot approved for Aussie roads.

It is a bias ply carcas combined with a tubeless radial bead.

Other sizes are on their way but we have no idea of when and how much, this also includes a bigger size than the 35x10.5 and all sizes in 15 inch.

I now have the only ten tyres out side of Asia...they look awesome. If it wasn't for the 4x4 show this weekend I would be driving on them...Monday will do though!

This is a VERY weird scenario...can't Simex sew these guys or something? I like them a LOT...I'd have prefered a redesigned center lug section as my ETs clog up in that area whereas the outer lugs are super clean all the time...

Wouldn't an eng cert solve this?

I have spoken with Chris Hummer about the similarities...Motorway did it with the Mongrel 2 years ago. Maxxi did it with the Claw...it happens a bit. Technically it has been changed enough and whilst it is a new tyre here they have already sold 1000 in Thailand.

Can I ask, although they are specced at 35"x11"x16", what do they actually measure on the rim(ie 16"x8" being a common rim size)?

I know the measument is usally tread width but that carcass looks substantially wider than 11". Also, are they a true 35" high or do we get an extra 1/2" bonus, etc.

I'd be interested to find out how they run on the road as the original MT-117 was supposed to be an absolute pig. I know for most that won't matter but we can't all be trailer queens. :D

there should be a QLD supply within the next month, and I was told the measurements are 35x10.5R16 :)

Also the MT117 Sports should be available in a 35" form in the next month or two :)

Yes probably - also I'm sure police/transport don't check whether your tyres are radial or bias ply if they pull you up, just if the size is legal and if they are protruding from the guards.

Me likey! Can you check with your contacts to see if there is any chance these might show up in the USA? I don't see that Silverstone really sells here at all. www.taborrallyteam.com / www.silverstonetyresusa.com is the only source I have found.
We're still waiting on Simex to get DOT approval to sell them here...

AnthonyP said he was told the measurements are 35x10.5R16.

If they are branded that way, and as the R denotes radial, that should be a good enough argument (assuming also that they are load and speed rated to acceptable values).
