Purchase help PLEASE

Post by n_dorphin »

Hi all,
I am going to buy a Hilux (New or close to it)
I can not decide if to buy Diesel or petrol.
I have never owned a diesel and dont know much about them.
Will be driven daily with some off road and beach work maybe once a month and sometimes will be used to tow a small boat.
PLEASE help, What motor/Models are best??????

Thanks Heaps

it depends a lot on your intended purpose and personal preference. maintenance and running costs are pretty similar between them - what the diesel makes up on cheaper fuel costs it loses on more frequent and higher service costs. If you're keeping it for a LONG time the diesel wins, treated well the motor will last a long long time. If you want outright power, get the V6 petrol. If you want range and impressive economy, the turbo diesel is good. Both tow well, the diesel is a little slow but the petrol is very thirsty when worked hard.

does that help?

cheers

Brian

im getting around 10-12L/100km in my lux with 3.0 d (5L engine) around town and i give it a bit. running 31' tyres. the std diesels rev their tits off at hghway speeds and overtaking is not real good. IMHO the turbo diesel is the pick for allround performance, economy, range etc.

From what i heard the petrols are getting between 6 to 10 Klm per litre.
I think if this is right i will buy a diesel. Was thinking to put petrol on LPG.

Not sure if it is more like 6 or 10 KPL but....
