I am not rich enough to gio out and buy a camping trailer, and as luck would have it i was given an almost brand new 6 x 4 trailer this week, additionally my bro in law has purchased some insane camping trailer and no longer requires all of the camping gear (about 2 6x4 trailers worth.
So i was thinking of getting the trailer closed in, some benches, water tank and a swing out sink and bbq added and whacking all the camping and cooking gear in there. But what about jacking up the trailer - is it a big deal to jack up the trailer and put some 4x4 wheels/tyresn on it?
Or by the time i do this i could have bought a 4x4 trailer?

I converted a motorcycle camper trailer into an offroad Moke camper trailer. It depends on the build of trailer, but I just got an axle made by a trailer place at the width (in my case of the moke) and with stub axles to suit moke rims. I jacked up trailer by fitting the axle under the springs, instead of over the springs..you can also use lift blocks on axles too.
I had the draw bar modded a bit, so it sat level..I then bought some trailer wheel arches from trailer shop, and bolted them to the sides ( 6x4 trailer wouldn't need that) ..I added shocks to it later, but wasn't really that much benefit (springs were too stiff to matter...I suppose it would be easy to fit some different leaves if needed. .worked well, but remember, the trailer wont be as tough as a purpose built camper, so don't overload/overwork it. I also noticed on bought 4x4 campers that the draw bars were heavier duty and continued a longer way thru the trailer chassis... christover

are you doing all the work yourself? if not, then Yup buy one second hand for $3000-5000. Another option there was a bloke at the caravan show selling camper trailers for $2500.00 NEW. Also the build quality of a normal box trailer wouldnt be as strong as an offroad one.
The kitchen unit for tailgate that we looked at at the caravan camping show, to BUY it complete is $1200!
worth about $200.00 Stainless water tanks around $700.00 then add new suspension, closed in, just get a tarp made up for it. Same as this
Then there is a 7x4 offroad box trailer (not camper trailer) forsale in club maggo for $2000.00 with the good suspension boxes etc.
Melb - But I cant afford a new trailer yet - so I will just jack it up as much as possible and drag my existing camping gear around in it untill either it falls apart (should be ages, its brand new) or i can afford a better one.
