Had the same problem on the last couple of outings, once at the snow, and at toolangi on saturday night.
Problem is that after a couple of hours of driving, the engine will suddenly loose power in the lower rev range. Tried to drive off after stopping to look at a map on saturday night, and had no power or torque. Car was idleing fine, revs cleanly in neutral, but with load it has nothing. Tried rideing the clutch at 3500 rpm and as soon as the clutch starts to grip, the motor tries to stall. Once going, with a little throttle, 5% or less, feels normal, but stand on it any harder and it coughs and splutters until about 3500, then revs normally.
What the hell is going on?
Cruising home on the highway, doing 4000 in 4th aint much fun, but later on it was back to normal, adn drove fine the rest of the way home, at normal revs.
Help me please.

had something similar, cept i couldn't go at all.... was one of the vacuum hoses on the carby... round the right hand side when ur lookin from the front. i'm sure someone will chime in with the technical name....
maybe that's causing ya problem... but doesn't make much sense if it's intermittant, unless it a dodgy connection or a crack in the hose....

i get that too. in the past year, its happened 4 times, at random, and no tell tail signs. even though i probably got a different carby to the 1.3 (aisin), its exactly the same problem.
its happened to me at peak hour at an intersection, where the bloody thing just would not go, idle fine, but no power. mostly happens when i'm off roading, maybe its the dust, i don't know.
i changed my air filter, my engine oil, fuel filters, blew out the fuel lines, basically a service, and it still does it. i've found that if i stop and turn the car off for about 15mins, and start it up again, the problem is gone.
the carby man up here had a 'visual' inspection, and said everything was where it was supposed to be, but for him to actually pull it apart and check it was going to be a bit over $350.

sounds like a fuel delivery issue, either a dirty fuel filter or a vapour lock. I used to get it in my landrover all the time and on the bike when I went to the track.....used to evaporate all the fuel out of the fuel bowls when I left it for a while, would idle, but htat was all.

Ok There are a couple of things I can say here , the common thing is of
of course fuel filter ,pump ?
Second somthing we as zook owners tend to biuld into our cars by accident , Have you removed the HEAT transfer hose from the air filter inlet ,? This is the 2 1/2 " flexible one that runs from the exhaust to the
Winter summer switch on the air filter inlet hose,
We normally remove this hose and set the switch to summer and wire it in that position so as the they can't pickup water from the low position
of the exhaust manifold,
This isn't a problem in its self but when we combine it with a snorkel
We create a problem in cold weather , The carb ices up cause the same symptoms as a bad fuel filter /pump .
What i used to do disconnect my snorkel during winter , And this would cure the prob , In extreme case such as snow ice exetra i have gone to the extent of racer taping the two side vents on the bonnet. This should be ample to keep up a sufficient under bonnet temp ,
Offcourse there are other issues That SOME thinkmemechs do like removing thermostats and choke systems that can irrate the problem as well .
Hope this helps .
(ps Its fine to hunt for that extra bit of power by having it cool under the bonnet but they need some warmth in there in really cold days)
