What is it with suppliers??

Post by CJ Burns Esq »

What is it with suppliers in the four wheel drive industry?
I have e-mailed 3 different mobs of 4WD bits suppliers for more information, received no reply and ended up buying from some one else. Business must be real good to not bother responding to potential clients.

A telephone call, ah well, there in lies the problem.
Recently I have been unable to call during business hours so one uses the contact details on the various websites instead.
It soon sorts out who can be bothered to check things any way.

yes...

at a huge expense... and the disadvantages - not everyone has one..

Lets say.. i want to call cheezy..

Do you think its a worthwhile investment for him to pay what? 3 grand on a video phone so he can talk to me and a few other people with hearing disabilities...

We've a long way to go yet.

I communicate via a relay service.. but its shite... usually my girlfriend rings up for me and relays what i want over the phone.

Or you could simply go into the store. Find the part you want sitting on the shelf. Tell them you want that, which they reply they don't sell that brand, only this other brand. You then tell them you want the brand thats on the shelf, which they then reply they don't sell that brand only this other one. You then ask why that one is on the shelf, which they then reply they don't sell that brand and can only offer you this other one.

Be damned if I am going to fly down to cheesy's from Sydney just for a look.
The whole point is if you offer a service, eg E-mail, some one should check it. As it was, cheesy didn't answer his mail so instead of buying his rock bars for my GQ, I purchased them of some one else that did answer.
All I know is that I still got what I wanted.
I am sure there are a lot of hearing impaired people out there that get really frustrated by a lack of response to their E-mail queries and it must cost suppliers a few bob in the long run.

Your right for the cost of ADSL these days. It would make sense to have the computer turnd on all day connected to the net. With the email screen up front. This way it is easy to tell when a new msg comes up. Also most programs can be setup to accept a couple of different email address. So it would be easy to seperate the bussiness stuff from the rest of the crap (MS outlook has this feature atleast).

I gotta agree with you there, even when you do go into a shop and do spend 9000$$ in that store, and you ring them up again later on for something else and they say sorry ill get him (who ever you normaly deal with) to ring you back you no damn well they wont ring you back a mate of mine waited neally two weeks for them to call in the end he rang them back, the problem is they dont have to chase people people are inpatient they will ring back all the time no worries, i dropped my truck off to get a trubo installed a few das later when i was due to go pick it up (which i took a day off for) i thought ill ring them up see if its ready to be picked up soo i rang them, they said nah it's not ready we broke a exhaust bolt at the expense of me we have to get someone in to get it pulled out i said well were you gonna ring me and tell me this, blah blah blah is all i heard 3 days later.. thats what 9000 thousand gets you for service (obviously the turbo didnt cost that, that was also suspension, tyres). still service is shit!!!! People dont give ashit about anyone because they no someone else will walk throught that door and spend there hard earned dollars there.. thanks for listening to myshit this topic stricked a match with me.

Wholeheartedly agree CJ!!!

If a retailer offers an email address on their advertising material, I think it is fair enough to expect that this is another medium for communicating with them. Email is convenient.

Why would a retailer think that someone who phones is more likely to buy product than someone that emails?? Phone calls can take up precious time for both parties, whereas email allows the sender to get their queries to a retailer in an efficient manner and the retailer to answer at a time (during the same day hopefully) when they have some quiet time.

If retailers don't want email queries......dont advertise email addresses.

I am new to the E-mail bit and I never offer the E-mail service but use the internet as a look see thing only. I didnt even set it up as a mate did that and I dont look at it much. I work from 630am to around 930pm most nights and have little time for much else. If you want my attention ring me, its not hard and dont take too long ( I get around 60 to 100 calls a day). I would rather the 1 on 1 on the phone, whats so hard about that :?: As for the hearing impaired I have no probs with GQ with all our dealings, I dont mind talking to his GF she is a good bird. There are still some companies doing it the old ways and I think its not all that bad. If my mates stoped looking at porn on the work computer it would probably work more often. :?

Email ordering is great if you know exactly what you want, it may be a bit impersonal, but I'd generally ring to actually order the part or query finer details, it may be easier for the supplier in some ways because they can respond when it suits, unlike the phone that rings when you're just about to start something or underneath a vehicle welding, which turns out to be some guy that you try and do a good deal for ties you up for half an hour on the phone, then doesn't buy because he got the gear $5 cheaper elsewhere or the guy who owns the vehicle asking when it'll be finished :?
The internet is so fast some people assume that others are at their computer for the whole shift, many may only check email once to 5 times a day, then have to process the request in amongst their other duties, so to wait a few days, even a week for a resonse is reasonable, if I wanted the item sooner I'd ring.

I am just going to add. If you advertise a contact email address on your web site, you had better check those emails. It does not look good if you email a company and they don't email back. You wouldn't let your phone ring out therefore why would you not reply to email?
