I'm starting to think that it's going to be hard to get the diff ratios that i want that are strong enough and cheap enough.
I want 4.7 ratios which are made by Great Basin Rovers. Unfortunately it would cost nearly $2500-$3000 to get them. They are different from the Rover style because they use a 8x38 tooth count as opposed to 10x47. For this reason they claim they are much stronger.
Are there places around that could make them up to the specs that i want for a reasonable price?

i gather since you are changing diff ratios that you are trying to affect both your on and offroad gearing... - probably due to an increase in tyre size?
perhaps it would be cheaper to change your x-fer case gearing instead. i.e. rockhoppers affect both high and low gears - would that do what you are trying to achieve here?

I believe we have a maxidrive front and a mcnamara rear in our workshop, they were removed out of a customers truck and he want to sell them. since macs use hilux ratios then you could buy mac and source the ratio you wanted as there is alot more available.

No, machined maxi drive down to fit in Hilux carrier. Bonus bigger bearings than Rover, which is what seams to cause most failures in CWP's in the rear of 3.54 rover diffs. Negative only got 30,000 kays out of MacNamara (Italian) Hypoid Gearset in 90 Hybrid part time 4x4 35 Muddies before case hardening coming off, common with many aftermarket gearsets, if not running 4.7 would use factory Toyota. Might change to 4.1's and a reverse cut front rover 4.1.
Currently 305 Chev, T400, 1:1 LT230, 4.7 diffs and 36 Swampers or 35 Xterrains. Too much gap between low & high range. Low range too slow, High Range just too fast some times. But I own what I have!!

the maxi drive part is the hemisphere that the ring gear bolts to. this is originally intended to accept a rover ring gear but macnamara modify it to accept their 4.7 ring gear which is hilux. Yes?
the maxi hemi is also modified to fit in the hypoid carrier, the bit that bolts into the main housing and carries the hemi and cw&p. Yes? This is the same as a hilux part only different bolt pattern where it interfaces with the main housing?
So maxi hemisphere can be modified to accept a hilux ring gear and bolt into a hilux carrier (the bit that holds the hemi and cw&p and bolts into the housing). Yes?

FYI
I spoke to mac today and you can run a rover hemisphere with hilux gears in a hilux case.
you need:
- a 162 thou washer under the crown wheel
- modified hemi and/or modified crown wheel
- new carrier bearings to suit maxi id and hilux od
note:
the hilux ring gear internal dia is 24 thou bigger than the rover.
you can either redrill the ring gear or the hemi to suit.

And you can shave the bottom of the housing and end up with the same amount of clearance with 31inch tyres as you would have with a set of 33s and stock housings.
i have maxis F&R spoke to mac about C&P was quoted $1350 per diff for 4.7's rang up maxis 2 days later they have both 4.1 and 4.7 in stock for both front and rear C&P $1300 not fitted . He told me they are stronger then the stock rover bigger teeth or something maxis are getting them custom made . WHile on the topic if running 35's was artio would suit me better 4.1 or 4.7 ? and what rom range could i except to sit on in 5th at 100kph
Yes I had this conversation with Mark Hardman today about doing Mitsu 5.29 crownwheel & pinion sets (only 1 new Gen 1 V6 front left in stock now from Mitsu).
They don't like doing them as during the hardening process things shift slightly he explained. OME gearsets always have a pilot run produced first (could be up to a dozen sets) to precisely work out the amount of shift that occurs during the hardening process. Once this is ascertained the gear cutting is adjusted to compensate so they end up spot on. He said OME gear kits are by far the best quality for noise suppression and strength.
One well known gear supplier is starting to have some complaints about excessive noise in Nissan Patrol sets and these are about the best aftermarket source there is.
