40 series air con

Post by bumpy »

hey guys... I've just picked up an aircon unit(supposed to be factory) and it goes in place of the cowl that goes from fan to heater...

how do you get the heater to work??? is it supposed to work off the aircon unit?? or is it a throw away??

looking at the aircon unit it seems that the 2 side fans would suck in from the sides into the unit so not sure how you could then use those fans for the heater :? :? :?

any help would be great....thanks

i'm not too sure what you mean with the heater, i have factory air in my 40, and it is cooler or blower only. It sits under the dash on the passenger side, so doesn't affect the opperation of the standard 40 heater/blower assembly sitting in the middle.

Just trying to get mine working again now, i searched half heartedly for years for the adjusting pully for the compressor and finally found one at......you'll never guess........TOYOTA. cost $55.

if you are not sure whether its ginuwine air, it should have ND nippondenso stamps over the various bits and pieces.

cheers

the 'air con' you are describing is only one part of the setup - the evaporator. you also need a compressor, condensor, receiver/dryer and a bunch of plumbing to get it up and working. It does go where you describe, and the fan blows air through the evaporator, then through the heater, then out into the cab. with the air con OFF the air just passes through the evaporator without being cooled. you can still run the heater.

does that make sense?

cheers

no photos sorry dude. it should more or less fall together, it's not that difficult an install. don't worry about the rec/dryer, you need to replace it when you get it gassed up anyway, so get the rest of it in there then take to an air cond shop and they will take care of the rest.

good luck with it

Hey Sam,

photos of inside the cab would be great... I have a 351clevo, so will be using a ford pump. Just unsure of the cowlings/plumbing that I may need to pick up to still be able to use my heater...

Thanks mate...Brendon

also the plastic air vent that is originally mounted under the passenger dash that comes from the standard blower is still there, it has not been moved or cut, the air con just sits underneith it. So yours may be different if it tangles with the cars heater unit.

Thanks for that Sam.....

The unit you have is the same as the one I picked up, and the only bit I need to get is the drier.

Cheers!! Brendon :)

Sam, thanks for the nice pics. I can use them when it comes time for my installation.

Brendon, the air duct from the blower to the heater is very specific to the air con models. Make sure you take that from the donor.

Hey Dave....

unfortunately I only have the ducting from my origional heater, but I did see another set-up from the states, and they just had silver foil ducting so it didn't take up so much space....

Thanks....Brendon
