1 ltr T/C in 1.3 NT

Post by little red »

Gday. What a great source of info this place is. I wish I knew about it a while ago. Would certainly saved some headaches.

I wanted to know a little about changing TC's. I know there are a few threads on this, but I could only find threads on WT's. Just wondering if there is much difference in putting a 1ltr T/C into an 1.3 ltr 86 NT. Do all the 1ltr T/C's have the lower gearing, as I have been told it is just the late 84 models. Also, how much should I pay for a 1ltr T/C?

Thanks

all 1 litre transfer cases hacve the lower gearing. This is to help overcome the lack of power. However, I believe that the 84 case you speak of is infact the case you need to make a rocklobster, combined with any 1.3 case. You can also use maruti case, as it is the same as an 84 1 litre.

Its definately worth the money to get the 1 litre case, but if you can, get the 84 model, so that if you fit larger tyres in the future, you have the option of using the 84 gears with your old 1.3 gears to make a lobster ( same reduction as S1 rockhopper)

should be easier to fit it to a 1.3nt, as they both use tailshaft hand brake.
the 1.3's sometimes have different bolt pattern on the flanges/tailshafts.
but you can use 1/2 1.3 and 1/2 1.0 uni yokes, as the uni joints are same size (just 1.3 has exterior clips ans 1.0 has internal) christover
