Yes they are becoming scarce. I have 15 (including 5 I had galvanised) - but I need them all, sorry. Maybe try ringing around wreckers though, that have discos, that is how I bought some of mine.

While I was looking for a set around Melbourne I found that they're really weren't many left, with most wreckers selling them as soon as they came in. One place had a full set of 5, but wanted $150 each!

Ended up getting Eastern Wheel Works custom wheels for $160 each (2nd hand) but even the new price was about $200 which is not bad for a custom steel wheel with the right backspacing for big tyres.

Why are they in such demand? Backspacing I'm guessing... :?:

Have gone to 15s on my Rangie hence why no longer needed, plus I've got the original 74 Rangie rims here too.

Also can someone please fill me in. I've got a 1974 RR and a 1979 rolling chassis for various bits and pieces. The Disco rims came off the 74 originally (as I bought it) but won't fit on the 79 (the hub diameter is too large to fit the Disco steelies).

No back space is the same as the alloys.
130mm.

but they can have the centres removed and reversed for around $45.00 each giving around 80MM back space perfect for 35s with no steering lock lost. If you have to pay $100.00 or more each then just not worth it.

The cost of these wheels is now making eastern wheel works look better all the time.

Custom wheel 7"and 8"around $200.00 each.

When i put disco rims on my 81' rangie i had to shave a little off the hub casting so they would slide on, no prob with my 85' though.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

I have heard of this problem before that they jam on the hubs and need a bit of 'angle grinder' assault :D

The Vogue alloys have the same problem. You need to grind out a few mm's from the inside to fit them onto older Rangies.

on the casiting of the end of the axles on early rangies, where the bolts go through, it is rounded and sit further out than the diametre of the hub itself. so the newer rims don't fit unless you flattern that part out to the same diametre as the hub.
