Which GQ do I go for?

Post by djr320kw »

I am looking at upgrading to a SWB patrol in the next months or so. I just wanted to know is it worth buying a 4.2 d. or buying a petrol with high km's on it and swapping it with a V8 on straight gas. Also is the V8 when put on gas going to be cheaper to run then the 4.2. I will not be doing any towing just weekend fun. Any help would be great. thanks. there are too many choices to look at.

i myself would be heading straight for a Diesel, but
when is the last time you have come accross one for sale, epecially a SWB diesel? so, if your after a shorty, id be leading towards the petty 4.2, then, later on, you could swap in the V8 on gas, if thats what you really, want,

will you ever be doing any long range touring?

they are hard to come across thats why I got the idea of getting a pertol SWb with heaps of KM's on it and doing a swap. I like the economy of a diesel and I am just not sure how prices on fuel are going to go as I study full time and dont want the V8 to cost more to run then a diesel. No I wont be doing any long range touring that is what the Pajero was suppose to be for but never got there. Just weekend fun now.

no too sure what sort of milage youll get out of a v8 on gas, but i suppose you do have to remember that gas is half the price at the moment,

add the cost of the conversion to the price of a petty and you could buy an import diesel easily.

One other option is to call a 'car searcher'

One of those blokes who go ringing around all the dealers aust wide for that particular model and year and kms etc etc you're after. They do all the hard work for you and the dealer sellin the car pays him the commission on the sale. So you'll be able to haggle with him instead ;)

just an idea.

I picked up my '88 petrol shorty of 8.6Ks. The trouble is now that my daughter has got her licence I hardly get a chance to drive it anymore. Beside that, it is a total shopping trolley. So the real point of this is that there are shorty gq's out there in good nick for under 10Ks.

You need to hide the car keys. I didnt want a petrol cause it will cost me too much in fuel. I study fulltime. Trust me get your daughter to pay for fuel if she is not at the moment and you will get the keys back quick
