New to Zookdum
New to Zookdum
Guys,
I'm absolutely new to the world of Zooks and have picked up a '93 Maruti LWB. Vehicle has a 970cc motor with a 5 speed gearbox (previous owner said it was a Sierra 5 speed). Firstly what is a relevant workshop manual for these vehicles? Secondly, I'm looking to buy some add ons to up its 4WD ability. What are the most cost effective additions to these vehicles? I'm basically at the start of this project and wondering where to go without backtracking later on, eg should I start with a suspension lift?, Sierra or Vitar motor?, or just larger tyres... ????
Thanks...

What condition is the original motor in.
i would search around and decide what terrain you mostly want to drive and build it from there.
Not to wild would be 2" suspension lift and a set of 30's. or add a 2" bodylift and 31's.
cheers

nicbeer,
Original motor is in pretty good nick, burns a little oil from the No1 cylinder, that's about it. Vehicle has 83K on the clock and was a steal at $2000 with a spare 1L motor, windscreen wipers were basically all it needed for its RWC. Terrain I'd like to drive is mostly mountain tracks/bogholes using a 29 to 30" mud tyre. I think a 2" suspension lift and winch bar will be the first purchases, with ultimately a Vitara motor, bigger front disks and a rear locker to be added. Regarding the 2" body lift, does it require an engineer's certificate in Vic to remain in RWC?

nice bargain you picked up
leave the motor in there, take the swaybar off, put some gears in your tcase, body lift, weld the rear diff and some some bigger rubber. look at suspension later.
btw 2" body lift seems to be legal (but this just means i've never heard of anybody being done for it). i used a solid steel kit, not square tube.

Yeah it was a bargain! Crawled around underneath it to undo the bolts to remove the rear seat and found absolutely no dings/scratches/rust or any evidence of offroad use, even the muffler is undented . All the suspension bushes are new as well. The 2" suspension lift is definately on the cards soon, but which brand? Also donated from the Lada will be a set of 215/75x15 Motorway Groundhogs and the Warn 5000lb, that should suffice for the next 6 months... maybe.

Sweet, my whole fam lives in Myrtleford.
I was gunna suggest (if you are melb. metro) that stopping by a VIC suzi club meeting could be a good move (but I guess its a bit of a drive), we have all sorts of zooks from stockies up to hi-brid buggies.
For my money I'd by a set of OME springs, they are reasonably soft offroad and rid well on road.
You could also do a bodly lift, either mod will allow the clearance needed for 30's

Bigsteve,
Yes, Melbourne is a bit of a drive at 90km/hr! I'll be making contact with the GV 4WD Club, and joining up. Pretty sure there are a few Zooks there. Many years ago Dad and I used to drive with the CCJC, dearly miss the club trips through the Alps and that moment of "What the hell!!" when you come around a corner to see 10 club members beside the track with cameras waiting for you to stuff up in the boghole from hell.
Take care... Con
