URGENT: What shocks for this car?
OK, I have decided that I will be investing in new front shocks this week. I am just after some advice/thoughts.
I am running the car that you can see in my sig below. Front coils are Kings 6" and rears are dobinsons 6" with a 1" spacer and Rancho 5 way shocks.
I am deciding between the toughdog 9 ways, the Rancho 9 ways and the Procomp non adjustables for $160. Aparently the adjustable Procomps have been recalled (so the local bloke told be).
What are the main reasons I would go or an adjustable on the front. I understand the rears is a good idea cos I tow my camper trailer and like having the ability to go harder.

1) Ranchos suck on big heavy 4b's. Mine died 3 times - I gave up.
2) Procomp recalled?? if so why would yuo consider them
3) Tough Dogs - had a real bad name few yrs back, dont know if they are any different.
4) KONI... or OMEs.
WIth the adjustable, you run them on hard most of the road time anyway, so you dont really have the choice. Poly Airs IF you can get them to fit the springs would fix your adjustable issue.
Go with Konis or even OME's.
Rancho's r fine
absolutely nothin wrong with them
i've had them for yrs on various vehicles without issues
and they work fine on big heavy 4b's
dont forget they come from a country full of big heavy 4b's
i'm not biased to them
people r going to have good and bad stories about basically any manufacturer
only thing with rancho's
if u go the long travel 9012's
they're originally designed to run in a dual shock setup
so if used in a patrol rear etc , u will tend to run them firm

I know of 8 GQ dudes on the forum that have had nothing but problems, ossie on here with his GU had 3 sets if I remember, he also gave up on them.. and 2 shops that are into hard core mods also said they are a waste of time on big 4bs... we must have all been unlucky
They may come from a country of big heavy 4bs but that aint aussie conditions...

sorry for the delay being out for the evening.
I was told of the Procomp Adjustable recall by a mob (reseller) in Brisbane this afternoon, as well as a local supplier. Apparently the issue is with the valving on the adjustables not being able to cope with corrugations.
One huge positive is that the guy has told me that I will have a lifetime warranty with them, as opposed to the mentioned rumours about Rancho warranties on lifted gear.
I will more than likely get these, and at half the price of the tough dogs, I will see if they cope. If not, I have not spent too much money on them. I have had 2 recommendations for them. The model number mentioned is ES9000, and I have been asked to measure my truck at full droop in the front to get the exact measurement right for the car. Also requested ride height.

what was it hitting on?? I could see how they MAY say no warranty if its been bashing something... :(
As near as I could tell, the shock had collapsed in the closed position which beat the mounts to death allowing it to tilt sideways inside the upper mount cage and cop the flogging you see pictured.
The mob that changed them out couldn't offer an explanation without suggesting valving may have crapped out
What I do know is that we had already done around 800k`s since I fitted them and then my partner drove some 600 k`s on it (without incident) thank god and secondly, that I am not that dumb I can't install a pair of shocks the right way up! Quite simply, the other shockie is fine so I can only assume something went wrong internally with that one.
Time will tell ...... they are on the way back to AA now.
