Problem- diff lock light coming on

Post by swamp »

On the way back from my weekend trip the centre difflock started self locking , as we got closer to home Iwould pull the lever up, push it back down and the light would go out then faintly start coming back on getting progresively brighter but not as bright as when the lever is fully up.
I have some theorys but wont predjudice people with more mechanical apptitude and knowledge than me.
Oh it's an LT95
All or any input is welcomed and appreciated
Regards
Michael

Sounds like a problem with the switch. Usually the diaphragm splits and the diff lock stops working completely (had this happen to a mate - worst thing was it happened in the locked position whilst four wheel driving - he removed a tailshaft to get home and the diff lock unlocked itself half way home).

It sounds like something else has happened to your switch that allows the vacuum to lock the centre diff when in the unlocked position.

I have a similar situation with mine, only the light is coming on and off, it is not engaging diff lock until I lift the lever. It occurred having been through a large puddle. The electrical connections are still tightly attached, so must be somewhere else in the circuit.

Thanks Guy

Yepp!!!!
Had the same prob for a long time ( LT95 ).

In my case it was simply the switch. Sits on top of the gearbox.

Good luck !

Have you tested to determine if the diff is actually locked by jacking one front wheel off the ground with the main gearbox in neutral and transfercase in high or low. If you can turn the wheel by hand with the difflock switch in the down position the diff is unlocked. if you cant turn it then it is locked.if you can turn the wheel maybe the live wire to the difflock warning light switch on the front output housing is shorting against the earth wire.
