Ive just bought a LWB 85. Took it out for its first sand run yesterday and the transfer case has shit itself.
The selector will not shift, could it be possible that just the selector has lodged or is it probably RS?

If you pull the shifter out you should find a bit of rubber in there where the transfer stick sits in if not buy a new one (not too many $$$$) and put it in and put your stick back in and you should have drive again 2h 4h and 4l. If you like for an emergency you can cut about 10mm of your top radiator hose and use that.

Part of the problem is the way you shift from 4low to 4 hi .. most of us are lazy and shift with a U shape (rounded corners). we shold shift in a squared off fashion .. IE strait back strait across and strait up..
My transfer case stick's in neutral on occasion .. All you ned to do to get it out is undo the boot arond the transfer case lever, pull back the rubber boot that goes over the top of the transfer case, then undo the little "clip" that holds the shifter in the t/case its a spring loaded clip that you have to push down and twist ( cant recall if its clockwise or counter clockwise sorry). Once you have the shifter out you will see the selector thingys. Use a screw driver to "knock" em into alignment. Put shifter back in in reverse order top the way you took it out (make sure you clean the spring loaded clip thingy .. its a PITA to turn when its greasy). At the first avaliable chace get a new shifter "sheet" (Thats what its called) and replace the old one like 12uke suggested.
Been driving mine with a dodgy shifter sheet for years .. just gotta stay vigilant about shifting from 4 low to 4 hi ...

Cant believe the speed at which i got a reply, i had planned on yanking the whole thing out this morning, I was stressing that it might have been more of a problem. The previous owner has installed rockhoppers and in Low they like to make a small knock knock noise. I was almost ready to have kittens when it happened. Anyways, ill head up to the garage and see what happens.
