Hi guys was wondering if any1 has taken there auto out of there surf and removed the transfercase.
I want to know if the transfercase is the same as in the manual surf .
also did it have a 23 spline output?
Thanks Dave

Any 1 taken the transfer case of the surf A343f auto

I have an A343F(from a 2.4L Surf) with a chain driven transfer sitting on my garage floor. As far as I know, both the auto and manual Surf's have a chain driven transfer box, well my 3 litre manual Surf certainly did. Pretty sure they are the same unit, VF1A? with the RF1A being the gear driven unit found on our domestic Hiluxes.
I have some pics of it(2.4L auto unit) if you need them. Currently it's attached to a modified A341E box from a Soarer.
A34xx auto boxes are all 23 spline output(though different lengths depending on application), well the 3 different one's I've played with have.
R150F(2.4L) and R151F(3.0L) manual boxes are 23 spline output too.
I'd assume only the adapter housing is different between both transfer boxes.
Hope this helps.

Hey Marco
Do you know if you could bolt the manual chain case to an auto ?
What im trying to do is find out if the bolt pattern on the R150/r151f is the same as on the end of the auto.
Where they actualy bolt onto the aluminiuw housing between the box and transfer cas .
Is there any chance you can take the transfercase of you auto lying on the floor ?? and see if they are the same even if you just post pics of the bolt pattern appart.
Im trying to do a dual case setup behind my auto and need to know if its the same tcase as for the manual r150/151f if the bolt pattern is the same then we can do duals for it .
Thanks Dave

Whats involved to do this as I am looking at putting a levus v8 in my Surf.
I would prefer to use a gear driven t/case so I can use dual t/case's and I dont think this can be done with a chain driven one. Is this true??
Where the f#@k did that come from

I doubt the two can be mated with off the shelf components. The gear driven units have a 21 spline input. An 23 spline input shaft change would be needed on the Tx box, which is possible though(ex USA). The yanks had a Hilux/pickup that had the R151F with geardriven Tx box. The Tx box was modified with a 23 spline input shaft(which you can buy) to suit the main transmission.
A custom adapter housing would then be needed for mating to an auto. I haven't seen one off the shelf, as yet. As for the rear of the auto and manual being the same pattern, I highly doubt it but I can't verify this as I don't have my manual surf anymore and I didn't keep any pics of the gearbox when I changed the clutch and flywheel out last year.
From memory the bolt patterns of the two different Tx boxes are vastly different aswell. I'd imagine you would need an adapter housing from a surf box and an adapter housing from a regular manual hilux(with gear TX box) and have then cut down, machined and welded togethor. No easy task.
Good luck

It involves putting the output shaft bits from the surf box into the Lexus box so you can attach the transfer box. The surf box has a very short output shaft where as the two different V8 auto's(A340E and A341E) have much longer shaft. They are all 23 spline output.
There are speed sensor mods needed too. The surf auto and lexus auto are very similar mechanically so some parts are interchangeable, namely the output shaft.
Ive had a look at the bolt pattern for the manual transfer case and the auto and they bothe have 9 holes ive spoken to marlin and he said if the auto has 9 holes with a removable tcase then its the same adaptor to use as the r150/151f the only difference being that for the auto it requires a different coupler to join the gear case to the auto . He has done a dual case to the A340f which i belive is the same bascally as the a343f .
I checkd out the part numbers fr the chain case for the manual and auto on the russian website and both are the same for manual and auto.
Im goin away for a week and wont be on me cmp but will look into it further and keep you posted.
Marlin is also making a new coupler called the MC10 to adapt a chain case to his crawlbox then to the back of the aluminium housing of the gearbox i have to wait to see if this will work with the auto.
I took a drive to the wreckas and externaly the tcaseslook the same so if the auto has a 23 spline we should be right .

Sorry, I thought you asked if you can bolt a GEAR case to the auto, not a chain case. I should read more closely next time, big difference. Whoops.
Both TX boxes are the same in the Surfs. Adapter housings are differnt though off course. Both Surf transmissions(M and A) have 23 spline output for sure.
V6 4Runners have a hydraulic unit but that's another kettle of fish.
