Brawn Hi Mount

Saw it in 4wd Monthly in the cristmas ideas section.

9000lb, 60m of plasma capacity, for $1990.

Sounds interesting, but there is no info on there website.

Anyone heard anything?

This is very strange, this "HIGH MOUNT" was first posted in magazines about 12-18mths ago, whole page spread!

Yet it never surfaced. I even upped a photo of it to this site.

No offence to colin, but i dont see it being the same as a Warn.. second hand warn HMount would be the go.

Would the warn highmount design be patented or under copyright?

Maybe Warn had launched some legal action against this copy and hence its all in limbo and will be till the dispute is settled...

It will be out before the next Outback Challenge. It's taken a bit longer because they are working on it to make it alot stronger and more reliable plus, they are putting in a better, larger motor. Maybe 9hp.

Warn arent that great, its all hipe, brawn are good value for money. I have a warn high mount, it wouldent pull me out of a bog even double line pulling, granted its only the 2.5hp but still. There is plenty of room in the market for new comp winches.

I've got a 10,000 low mount that I will swap for the high mount if you wish, so long as your high mount is in good condition. It will give you more pulling power!

if Brawn is so good why did the Brawn guy in his 80 turn up to the alpine challange with a warn winch on his truck

Daz, are you dreaming or what. The Brawn 80 pulled all the way through the stage 6 bog in the Alpine challenge...the next team on the track burnt out two 24V high mount Warn motors in the same place and took hours to recover in the dark.
I have owned Warns, Ramsays and a Thomas...the Brawn is the first winch I have ever used that didn't need constant maintenance. The bloody warn would pack it in every 2 to 3 months. My off the shelf Brawn has been abused for over 2 years and has never once failed or needed rebuilding.
No one can beat the no load speed of the Warn himount but that gearing means that the warn winch lacks real grunt. Many times I have seen a hi mount through the snatch block when the Brawn does it easily in a straight pull.
Don't get me wrong, in a timed situation, the speed of the warn and it's ability to spool in as the car grabs and drives is awesome but fact is that the Brawn's pull will shit all over a warn himount. In field tests (4x4 Australia mag and on the Brawn test bench) I have never seen a Warn reach it's rated capacity and yet the Brawn off the shelf 9,500 continually pulls to over 12,500 lbs (Warn cable breaks well before that).

Now the Brawn himount...I have had a bit to do with the design of this over the last two years and it has unfortunately come down to a factor of time. Brawn is a growing new business and has not had the time or capital to expand as rapidly as required. They usually run 20 to 30 winches behind shipments and can not keep up with the orders let alone put time into R&D. Ontop of this Colin is currently seriously ill and in hospital for an unspecified time.

I reckon you'll find cos the brawn is twice as slow as a highmount. but being slow doesn't mean it isn't tuff.

I winch bitched for the Brawn 80 at the Alpine...it ran a Brawn off the shelf (except for the air clutch)...it has also competed in two outback challenges with the off the shelf Brawn winch.

bollody hell i haven't tried the brawn yet.


i bought a new 900lb warn last year and it shat itself last konth in warrenty. i get a call from warn. they will not cover any damage under warrenty as it has been in water. tis is bullshit for 4wd winch to not be allowed under water. they said sorry and when ii asked if it could be fixed by soemone else they said sure but the parts quoted were close to 2 grand. they said that if i bought another one from them it would be 1600 and their new water resistant one.

i called brawn. got a great lady on the phone. they are going to set me up with a more powerful and faster winch with plasma rope for less than warns offer.

warn is riding on their name and is going to have a hard fall oneday.

i'll let you know how it goes if i get the winch (more importantly if i cann afford it)

I suspect that you are refering to Ash's tray back, the blue one. Yes Ash has a Warn but no affiliation to Brawn. I have seen the Brawn in action and spent time with Colin at the factory and at the Alpine. The winches are rock solid and built to last. Once the Hi Mount is ready they will scare the pants off Warn.

No it won't. You think Warn give 2 shits about the small AUS market? They sell like hot cakes all around the world, they won't lose much money from AUS.

The local importers Ateco may look at adjusting their prices a little but lets face it, Warn is the name brand when it comes to winches. Do you think "Esky" went out of business just because someone else brought out another cooler?

Luckily for us, the choice is ours.
