Marshal Training

Post by Smithy jnr »

The CCDA are working on a marshal training program and the training manual will be out by Xmas. The first practical weekend for marshal training will be 19 & 20 March 2005. Some of the top drivers will be at the Ateco Venue, Gippsland, to put the marshals through their paces.
The idea is to have a program that marshals will enjoy and this will help event organisers to run events with consistent decisions from informed officials.

I have a meeting on Tuesday with Leon and Mike and were gunna try to formalise how it all will work with regards to everything. The main aim is to standardise everything and the start will be a training program in March where we will go thru all the rules of competiting, demonstrate what they all mean in a practical sense, comprise a list of what is required with regards to gear (whistles, hand held radios, stopwatch, ect...) and so on.
Its good that Rudi is going thru some rules but the CCDA are trying to give marshalls an accrediaton so a course will need to be done.
As the time gets closer we will inform you again but it will be advertised on the CCDA calander and website.

All the paperwork side of the program is being finalised over Xmas and will be ready in the new year. Keep the above mentioned dates in March free so that those that wanna learn can and if youre not already a CCDA member, join up. There will also be 2 theory nights held the week leading up to the weekend, held on either side of Melb and I will i let you know whene and where these will be.

Let us know if you want any support from 4wd TV.

Our other business (The National Institute of Education) is also a government accredited and Registered Training Organisation. This may be of benefit in providing a Nationally accredited and recognised certificate for the qualification. We are also licensed to provide nationally accredited first aid courses...which I'm sure you have already thought would be a great module for the qualification.

Cheers.

CCDA memberships have been extended until 30 June 2005. This aligns with the membership clauses of the new National consititution, and reduces the registrar's workload over the Christmas/New Year period. All subscriptions now fall due on 1 July each year.

whats the go with membership for officials only, not competitors?? I dont mind officializing, have done it since 1988 with superbikes, and GPs since they entered aussie, numerous 100 club days, and state titles etc..

Please see the attachment for all the finer details and hopefully we see some of you there!!

If you wish to help us with marshalling at the Outback Challenge, Ateco, SIMEX Pursuit, Alpine Challenge, Vic. Winch Challenge and other competitive 4WD events we have developed a program for Training and Accreditation.
For the volunteers who help us to run these events this is your chance to participate in our Marshal Accreditation Program. Wouldn’t it be great to be always right!

THEORY NIGHT:
East side: MON. 7 MARCH 2005, 7.30PM: Scout Service Unit (within the Community Centre), Bowen Street, Chadstone. Contact Leon Jones, 0411 131 929.
OR
West side: WED. 9 March 2005, 7.30pm: Woodgrove Community Room, High Street near corner of Coburns Road, Melton. Contact Mike Smith, 0408 244 111.

This evening will consist of one three hour classroom session where the Officials and Marshals will be briefed and tested on their understanding of the rules:
· Explanation of the training process.
· Presentation by an event organiser on event planning.
· Testing your knowledge of the rule book, in a written Q & A paper. The revised rule book is on our web site so open it and download it, here is the link: http://ccda.4wd.org.au/cms/. If that is too hard email me and I will forward it to you.
· Discussing and rule interpretation of simulated incidents.
· Outline first aid and emergency plan by experienced officer.
What you must do is arrive on time and know the rule book, please bring a pen.

PRACTICAL WEEKEND at Bindaree, Gippsland. The venue of the Ateco Winch Challenge. Great camping area. B.Y.O.G. everything: camping gear, food, drink.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, 19 & 20 MARCH
This will consist of one weekend camp where the Officials and Marshals will be trained and tested on the application of the rules.
The experienced drivers will be there to see if you can catch them out and they will help with this program.
Please book with Mike Smith, 03 5783 3496, or email: smithy@acepia.net.au

Sounds like a great idea. Just need to have a course run up in brissy. Also has anyone given any ithought to a safety course for marshalls. At the battle of the codes I noticed a huge lack of crowd control, no defined first aid areas and no fire marshalls in site, people not wearing gloves and helmits while competeing etc. In some cases the crowd including kids who were sitting down, were within a couple feet in front of the trucks as they tried to turn around. All it would have taken is a slipped foot off the clutch and they would be gone. I just think that there should be one safety conduct code for all comps to follow. I think that this should be a seperate course, after all you don't need to know how the points are scored or the finer details of the rules if your job is to keep everyone safe.

Yes I do and I also know the questions too!!

On a serious note........
Remember that this marshal training is for the benefit of us all and you will need to be an accrediated marshall to help out at any CCDA events including OutBack & Alpine Challenge, Ateco & Vic Winch Challenge and possibly NavRun events(if they are CCDA events) (Rudi will let us know!!).
The program will be rolled out nationally when we fine tune it in Vic so the other states will follow suit soon.
