Hi all,
Im sick of my stock 2 door '90 vitara and have a couple questions about lifting it. I was thinking of a 2in suspension lift and a 2in body lift. Are there many other modifications that will need to be done to get this kind of lift? I would also like to know if I could fit 31's onto it after the lift without any panel work. If not how about 30's.
What kind of money would I more or less be looking at for this? Who in Sydney would you reccomend?

have you tried searching for the information on here?
OME have a kit, about $1500ish, dont quote me, and i think its about 30-35mm/1" lift, but comes with new struts and rear shocks.
to get 2". maybe you have to get some custom coils made, or use coil spacers.
a 1" or 2" body lift will go in ok, but a 3" will require a lot more work. with a 2" body lift, you won't need to do too much 'extra' work, but to fit 31"s, you might have to do a bit of trimming of the front guards, and maybe borrow a BFH if you dont have one, for the firewall that it. if you don't plan to go off road, you wont need a BFH.

31"s is a reasonable goal and lots of people here have done it.
The problems increase exponentially for every inch of rubber over 30".
Going bigger has it's price.
I would estimate that for every inch over 29" or 235/75/15 you will need to double your maintainance costs.
This is probably UNDERSTATING it.
If you're not doing medium/hard trail I'd say go to 30" only. If you are then there should be money spent on lockers and stuff like that in conjunction or the effort to put 31"s on is wasted.

Pick up a 31" tyre.... it weighs about 20kg on it's own.... your standard tyre probably weighs 12kg.
Add extra weight due to the heavier rim if needed for the wider tyre.
Greater load, greater stress on CV's wheelbearings, brakes etc etc. That's without going for wider offset too.
3" bodylift will not be legal in most states even with engineer approval, and where it is legal will require an engineer's cert so add another $500 to your quote.
2"+2" should be sufficient to run 31"s anyway if that is your goal and can be made legal in every state to my knowledge.
Out of all the guys here with Vitara's on 31"s or better I had the LEAST hassles with the setup (and also the least front travel which may be related).
I'm not trying to put you off, just make sure that you know what you're in for. As of yet I haven't heard much about how you're gonna use it...... so it's hard to recommend suitability of the mods.
Competingh with a cruiser you'll be doing pretty well.... 31"S and a locker will probably do that depending on the cruiser.
Also for the extra money that extra 1/2" of ground clearance you're looking for (1" tyre = 1/2" clearance) is gonna make WAAAAAY less difference than a single locker or gearing.
