Bunged Diff
I ripped my rear diff bung out in the weekend on a rock in the middle of nowhere managed to plug the hole and get home on engine oil in the diff.
I am thinking of welding up the bung (as the thread is now stuffed) and putting a bolt in the bottom hole that holds the diff head in and using that as the drain !!
any other ideas

If your planning on welding up the bottom of the diff why not try doing this?

Shaving the bottom of the diff off for more clearance.
I plan on doing this one day when I get keen

I've shaved both of my housings and I think that it's worth every cent! Not hard considering it costs nothing.
I did the rear just after christmas and the front the weekend before last. I didn't take careful measurements on the rear diff but on the front I gained 20-25mm extra clearance under the part where the protective sump ring was and 10-15mm out of the body ie the part under the middle of the diff centre. That's equivalent to 2" in tyre size possibly more if you allow for low tryre pressures. Add that to the small 8" hilux ring gear, you've got heaps on the likes of patrols and landcruisers.
The other benefit associated with the mod is that you get a flat/smooth surface to slide over the rocks nice and easily. There's no paint left on my rear and there's a few gouges but no leaks.
So I reckon - go for it!
