Tuning a Diesel for Forced Induction
So how do you adjust the fuelling to suit forced induction?
Is it a DIY sort of job?
It's a 2.4L Hilux motor, BTW.

specific? umm....
didn't really have anything specific at this stage, I'm just thinking about forced induction for the lux and wanted to know a little more!
I know with petrol you have to put a fair bit of work into getting it to work, i.e. rejetting carbs or aftermarket computers etc, but I kinda thought it might be easier for a diesel?
I'm actually thinking about a supercharger at lowish pressures.

I'm running a 2.4 surf turbo in my 2.8 motor, only real thing I had done was injectors as well as turbo, you can do fuel pump etc. just depends how much you want to spend, fuel pump is $$$, not sure what boost I'm running, but does haul ass.

yes it does need to be set properly, preferably on a dyno which has air/fuel ratio measurement. Just adding a turbo charger does nothing without adding more fuel. As long as your fuel system is up to scratch it shouldn't be a problem, for max power 18:1 af ratio, any lower than this and high egt's can be found as well as excessive smoke.

I think the place i got mine done had 3 options for tuning,
1 we can do a little bit to help it, but we prefer not too, was about 500ish
2 we do more and is better but we don't put a fuel anaeroid on so it's still not as good as we can do, was about 14/1500ish
and 3 the ducks nuts was around 2200 with a full pump rebuild and retune, injectors, timing belt and come back in a few weeks and we'll check it over again.
My Lil Lux, we should've had a go at the drag racing at WW2
1 we can do a little bit to help it, but we prefer not too, was about 500ish

ur last option at that diesel place wasn't fitting a fuel compensator was it? because the standard 2lte motor has that intergrated into the motor system and u can achieve quite large amounts of boosts from these enginge......user warning tho they don't take much to blow

The 2LTE might, but the 2L needs it when adding a turbo.

what the basic mod needed to be done
The cast intake manifold is used, but on mine it came with a new exhaust manifold to sit the turbo in the right spot, otherwise if it hung off the end of the factory exhaust manifold, it would have been down near the chassis rail on that side
edit: if ya want I can get a couple of pics of the turbo setup in mine and e-mail them to you.
re:adjusting fuel for turbo
you need to weld a bung for a pyrometer in your exhaust just after turbo. chuck it on a dyno and load it up. wind in injection pump till exhaust temp is near to 500 degrees and your done. or alt srew your pump up and find a big hill and get a mate to follow you up and if he says its smoky when you're mid rev range back it off a bit till it doesn't blow smoke. thats what we do anyway, others might disagree but our trucks go grouse and we've never had any problems.
