replacing 3.5l with short 4l
it looks like im going to replace my 3.5l with a short new 4l can someone tell me what is involved who is good in NSW to do the swap and what type of dollars am i going to part with.
5" lift front locked looking for bigger tyres
The 3.9 is a straight bolt in conversion, only odd bit I noticed was there are fewer head bolts in the later model block than my 76 heads.
Excellent results, I paid around $3200 for the short motor and used my timing cover, carbies & manifold. Add a 2 1/2 exhaust too.

Anthony, I am not sure what you want explained. The new Discos and Rangerovers do not run the 4.0 or 4.6 motors any more. Around the time that these models were about to be released, Landrover slashed the price of brand new short motors. You could buy a 4.0 for about $1,800 and a 4.6 for around $3,600. I took this as them clearing their surplus stocks of the old motors. I understand that they are now getting harder to find at this price, a few people were just buying to to store until their motors needed replacing. I do not think the dealers were selling them this cheap, even though they were buying them below this price. The people I know were more purchasing them through outlets that specialised in landrover parts.
