Door removal..best options??

Post by Whitey »

Having a bitch of a time trying to remove the doors off my zook, already broke one philips bit using the impact driver!! Just wondering what is the best hinge leaf to remove the screws from...from the doors, or the body. It's not mentioned in any search, and the only pic I could find was one of Grimbo's 1/2 doors with them removed from the body. I've been trying to remove them from the door so I can put hex head bolts back in, to make it easier to swap from full to 1/2 cut doors, but I think it's bouncing too much for the impact driver to work effectivly. Has anyone here remved their's from the doors??

No i Havent, but I have another set of doors that I'm going to cut and make half doors, so let me know what you do.

BTW, I think the best thing to do is to use the angle grinder to cut the hinges and make them removable.

Do anyone know if this is illlegal or what???

I have had luck in the past by heating them up , with a heat gun . Seems to do the trick .
If you are getting rough then vise grips . Or if you are going to install bolts just grind them off , once the hinge is off there is enough thread sticking out to grap with formentioned vise grips or pliers and they come out easy then ( a> heated up by the grinding and b> no tension anymore )

Cheers

G'day i've removed the doors from my rig before. To do this i used a centre punnch and a large hammer, it does distroy the screw head but for around $16 i replaced all of mine for stainless allen-key-head bolts. Looks a lot beta as well and makes further removal quite easy.

SUCCESS!!!! Got the doors off, I banged the crap out of the door mounted hinges, but there was too much bounce and I guess it was softening the impact went I struck the driver. Screws on the body mounted hinges came out heaps easier. Now I don't have to cut the hinges to swap doors on and off, I'll just use stainless bolts(hex or allen) like JrZook said when ever I swap doors around.

Just make sure that the doors that you are swapping on have some hinges with them (most doors you get wont, eg wreckers)
