Very easy to do jack car up
remove wheel
undo 2 bolts holding caliper on hang up or place some were so that no strain on brake line
remove disc
undo 5 small bolts that retain rear axle to diff housing
tap flange with hammer to remove axle from diff housing
prise oil seal out with screw driver
put it all back together the opposite way

BUT........ if its the outer axle oil seal leaking, you'll need a Press to remove the axle shaft from the bearing housing to get access to the seal...

The outer seal is not an oil seal it is to keep grease in and contaminants out.The wheel bearing is grease packed and if a lot of oil has been through it it will need fresh grease forced in.

To get the wheel bearings of a GQ rear axle which are semi floating not full floating like cruisers you will need a big strong press and if the oil is in the grease might aswell replace the bearings about $160 per side big arse bearing

hmm from what I read, yes you can change the oil seal in your driveway, but not the grease seal on the outside of the bearings.... and if the bearings have had diff oil running through them then it would be an idea to repack them while the axle is out...........

its easy pull out the axle, drop by repco & pick up a wheel bearing kit, $90 if you know the guy & drop it at a gearbox/driveshaft shop. pick it up later & hand over $10 its that easy :D and they clean it up & pack it with grease
Drive home & re install. :D

I would try repacking them without stripping the bearing from the axle.
A needle nose grease gun will do most of the work , then force the grease into the bearing with your hands.
It won't cost you anything to try.

Just as a follow up on the seal replacement.....

did it this arvo...with no real dramas except getting the new seal in place.
Sat there for a freekin half hour drying to tap the prick in,,,but couln't get it do bed evenly...then I had a brain wave  ....my little home made press worked a treat and bed the seal in perfectly...wadda you reckon...?

anyways..thanks all for the tips, and J Top...I seemed to be able to get a fair wack of grease into the bearings using your suggestion...although it took a while, it will hopefully have saved me a full disassembly job.
