Ive just been 2 see an engineer bout getting my POS engineered and he wants me to fit a longer steering shaft (because of my bodylift). He says that one from an import Surf is longer than a Hilux one. Anyone know of this??
If this is true and i cant track one down or they're 2 costly I will just get a Snake Racing steering shaft xtension.
have you got power steering and a ifs box ?
the std non power steer shaft is longer than a power steering one
if not east coast 4x4 in chippingnorton has the surf shafts i think

If you go this way you need to have the welds X-rayed for engineer. I'm in same boat- think I will look at the Surf shafts. Thanks for the tip!
yeah well if u ever have a look at this shaft u would think nothing of it..... its been cut and welded andthen sheathed agin so unless u no what to loook for their is not welds that u can see

Ok, I went to wreckers today and looked at two Hiluxes without p/s. Only thing is when i looked at them there was the std uni joint just b4 the shaft goes into the steering box and there was also another uni just before the shaft goes thru the firewall. The shafts on Hiluxes with p/s have a uni on the inside of the cab so therefore they appear to be longer than the non p/s luxes. Or is there more shaft that goes in thru the firewall on the non p/s ones that would make them longer?
when i went from no power steer to standard power steer i cut 40mm off the standard steering shaft wich i now regret due to the current x over mods that im doin
Yeah mines LN106 too. Would I be better off getting a Snake steering shaft extension and save myself the hassle of chasing down a shaft that seems to be an unknown length??
Just checked the Snake site and the steering shaft extension will be too long for me to use. It says they should be used for 3" bodylift or x/o steering.
you can still use the teering extender on two inch body lift cause im doing one on the weekend if you have a uni joint just on the inside of the firewall and one at the box you will have three adjustment one at the box and two inside the cab to push it back up inside itself and fit the extender
hope it helps as far as i know they are engineerable alot better than cutting and welding

Just to confirm, the Snake Racing Steering Shaft Extension will be too long for this application, and the price has recently gone up to $150. Hope this helps.[/quote]
