22R Problem
hey all
got a problem with my 22R.
If I am driving down the street, and put the clutch in, the revs drop all the way down, sometimes to 200, or even 0 and stall..
If i let engine braking work, and let the vehicle slow down by itself, sometimes it doesn't do this.
I know for sure, that the car is running too rich - could this be the only problem I have?
My theory is the car is flooding and stalling itself
Anyone got any ideas / past experiences with this type of thing?

Just clarify this for me...
so if you try and let the car idle it will stall.
if this is the case and it will only keep running if you have the loud pedel down (either a little bit or all the way), it would most likely be a carby problem.
The Float level could be wrong.

As you said it could be flooding itself but on the other hand it might not be getting enough petrol which is why you have to keep the revs up to get the juices flowing (Which I think is more likely if it is reving at 200rpm) (must sound absolutly fukd)

had a leaky fuel pump, just replaced that, but wasn't the problem

Yeah well you are probably right it might be flooding, but it could sitll be lack of fuel like a blocked jet.
You should probably rip of the carby (only 4 bolts and a couple of fuel lines and vacume lines.... Clean the whole lot in petrol. This may seem daungting (it did to me the first time. But it is soo simple. You will only need a good set of screw drivers, socket set and a maybe a pair of pliers.
To remove:
4 bolts
Vacume lines (label and map them on a piece of paper as there are about 5 that need to be removed)
Fuel lines -make sure the engine aint too hot incase you spill abit
Air intake (3 bolts I think and a bit of hosing)
Electronic Choke socket.
Once you get it off, just wash it all in petrol, to get all the crap off it. Once you have done that seperate the top from the bottom (about six screws with one hidden in the middle :wink: ) Once you have these to parts seperated then wash in clean petrol.
Remove the jets with a screw driver (being careful not to fukup...strip...the head) and wash in petrol.
Check the float level (near enough is good enough ) and then pull any other bits you think might need a clean, like the accelerator pump and the float needle.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU GO AHEAD WITH THIS YOU WILL NEED A GASKET/OVERHALL KIT as you are bound to break the old gaskets. A kit also includes a new accelerator pump and float needle and gaskets
They cost around 70$ and have a pull apart diagram of the carby so you know what does what and what bit goes where
HAVING A WORKSHOP MANUAL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as it talks you through everything.
Bung er all back to gether and hopefully if will fix the problem.

If you grab a workshop manual for it (40$ (or hire it from your local libary(they will definatly have one, as even tassie does )but well spent as I use it before I do anything to double check and find out stuff)

This is Bootie but usually an easy fix. Remove the top cover that goes to the aircleaner on the carb.
Start the engine and then take a good sized rag that you can bunch up in your hand. Rev the engine using the linkages on the side of the carb fairly hard and then without letting the revs die choke the engine off with the rag by blocking the top of the carb.
Now before it stalls remove the rag and rev the engine again till it runs properly again.
You may have to repeat this a few times but it will usually suck what ever is in the jet through and clear the prob up.
Make sure the rag is big enough that it doesnt get sucked in to the carb.
