1993 dual cab hilux

Post by ditch »

gday all, new here
been reading for a while tho...

neway this week (tomorrow hopefully) im going to check out a 1993 Dual Cab Hilux. dont know much about it yet, like weather its 2.4 or 2.8 L engine or wat, im hoping its 2.8 of course :) but the dealer wants 6k for it, cos it will have just been traded in, and as ill be trading in another car for $3500 it sounds fine with me.

Do you guys think $6000 for 1 '93 apparently in spotless condition is a good price? What is there to look out for in the 1993 model, and ill be planning to do a bit of off roading here in Tassie up the east coast, probably Coles Bay and stuff but yea I'm not sure what ill need to do to it to get the most out of it without spending a fortune. Im thinking maybe some 30"+ tires and a lift of some sort will start me off. Im not too sure whats the go tho, so yea ne info would be appreciated guys.

Cheers, Ditch

IMHO 6K is a very good price, so good that I would make sure I go very thoroughly over the vehicle to make sure something isn't very wrong!

yea definatly, but the thing is the old dood who is trading it in is buying another car from the dealer, so obviosuly hes not getting very much for the trade in only $6k, and then the dealer is just turning it round straight to us, thats why its so cheap. was owned by an old man who went fishing on the weekends :)

but yea nething to look out for in 93 hilux's? and also someone help me out with some good mods to start off with it?
i never really understood the difference between a body lift and suspension lift :S all so confusing to me

and ill have a look underneath, not really sure wat things im looking for but i will none the less :)

i got a 1993 dual cab 2.8diesel and i paid $16K for it in january. if its $6K i would be pretty sus on it.

when you go to check it out, putt back the vinyl and check for sand / rust in the body where it pools the worst. these trucks are geat to mod coz they are so popular. you can turbo it, slap some 33"s on it and a little lift. lockers follow suit and you have a capable beast in no time.

but as i said, i would be VERY sus on the six grand price tag. :?

Check all the rust hot spots then very carefully :? Also take a magnet and a bit of rag to look for bog etc :)

It's probably seen heaps of beach. Look for evidence of professional rustproofing too cause that'll be very important ;)

IS it 6K plus your 3.5k trade or is it 6 K all up. Thats seems real cheap.

Just sounds a little to good to be true. If it all checks out fine, you may have found they buy of the year!!! Just tread very carefully.

well to no surprise the deal fell through! and so did 3 other various hilux's, including a nice 89 for $5000. oh well back on the look again (been looking for nearly 2 months :() so if anyone happens to see any nice hilux's in tassie for less than $8000 or so PLEASE tell me im desperate.

we're going to check out another one this w/e tho up in launceston. 1985 hilux, canopy (piss that off) 2.2L Diesel i think

http://www.tassiecars.com.au/detail.jsp?id=5511&ti=true

(note half the details on that are wrong including the price, he wants $6500 for it)

id DEFINATLY get rid of the bullbar (and get a nice ARB one) and get rid of the roof rack thing and the canopy and the steps. but yea, no point getting my hopes up as i do EVERYTIME cos i just get disappointed :(

thanks for the help tho guys

thats reall cheep!

i bought a 95 dual cab 2.4 bout 1/2 year ago for 14.

ive had no issues with mine.. one read up on em said.

bad as a few people has already pointed check for rust. the hilux metal for the body is very thin to keep the wieght down. but this makes it rust easy..
