Racing buckets into a hilux

Post by batcho101 »

Has anyone done a Racing seat conversion into there lux?
Mine is an 84 model single cab and the drivers seat is shot and so is the mount. Do u need to addapt the factory mount to the bucket seat?
Does this have to be approved by an engineer? any help woudl be appreciated

phippsy and scotty (83 lux) have aftermarket seats in there lux. i believe they are seats out of a honda prelude. and i am told that any modification to the seating in a car need to be engineered. (in qld anyway.)

I put a couple of Monza seats in mine. I cut the old seat-slides up and welded em up to suit. Mine aren't engineered but would def need to be eventually.................

Toyota Surf seats pretty much bolt straight in.

And they are very very comfy.

The only mod needed it to drill holes in the floor on the passengar side, as the seat is designed to slide much futher to let people in to the back of the surf.

I happen to love this added feature in the x-cab as it means i can get to the back shelf a bit easier.

I picked mine up second hand for 250 bucks, better then most of those pricey "race" seats you find.

Features include:

Lumbar Support (Driver side)
Adjustable head rest (up and down, and angle)
Adjustable seat angle (Driver side)
Adjustable huggy thingies (Driver side) You know, those side bits that keep you in place :)

Passenger still gets a comfy seat, just not all the extras... bugger em anyway, the should be out filming the action anyway :D

My car already has a mod plate for the seating being changed from 3 to 2 seater. Does anyone think i will get away with this plate and the bucket seats? The seats i want are the monza rally ones but i will probably get some from this site www.grudge.com.au because they are similar to the monza ones but 150 cheaper.

YN67 (85/86 SR5 xcab)

I have no idea what model surf they came out of though.

If it helps, they are grey with a surf logo on the headrest.

If you can find them, they cant be beat for the price :)

b4 I got my ones out of a honda, I had some import guy try to sell me Recaro's out of a Surf for 500/pair and they were torn, dirty with odd stains and cigarette burns and got offended when I didn't buy them and told him to shove em.

How hard were the hona seats to fit Phippsy? Do you have them engineered?

Dead easy, the 2 front mounts that are bent over where the exact match on the hoonda seats, the rear left mount needs to be spaced up and inch to keep the frame level and the rear right mount needs to have a piece of plate welded on it to move the mounting hole back a 1/2 inch. Mine has been running with the 3 bolts to date  and it's not engineered

I do have a couple of pics I can e-mail though.

Ive got mazda 626 seats in mine. Just cut off the runners off both the old lux seats and the new mazda ones and welded the mazda seats to the lux runners. My engineer said that was ok. But he still added them to the engineering report. He did mention sumthing about they really only need to be engineered if i had redrilled the mounting holes in the floorpan but,
he never said anything about the runners being rewelded to a new seat. Maybe thats why he engineered them anyway.
