I have a blocked breather on my 84 4runner 5 speed gearbox, can anyone tell me were the breather is?
I removed the plate from under the console, checked on top of the box under the gear shift boots, could feel all the way forward to the bell housing, but nothing there.
Does the transfer have a seperate breather? and, when I find it, how do I water proof it? in those famous words, ......please explain.....
Thanks in advance,
doublediffa

thanks fellas, I'll have to search a bit harder this weekend.

I extended the gearbox breather on my LN106 using bits from Enzed for $11, also had to replace the shifter boots as they had completely perished (I can email pics). No body lift, it was a bit fiddly but do-able.
I was wondering how I was getting all that water and mud in my transfercase - it was coming straight in where the shifter is! So new boots and siliconed in place...
But Paul you've got me thinking, now I've sealed where it breathes from, do I risk water being sucked through the seals instead? Maybe I should put a little breather tube through the boot..
If I ever get the transfer case out I might get a breather tapped into the shifter cover.
