Putting the POWER back into Suzuki Power Steering

Post by greg »

Hi Team,

I'm looking for clever and interesting means of increasing the steering ability of my little suzuki.

Now I'm not talking about the standard Jimny / Vitara / Cressida box type swap... I'm talking about putting something on with a bit of beef behind it.

Here the rules:

1. Must mount inside the chassis (outside is okay - but must comply to rule number 2).
2. Prefer a backwards pointing pitman arm
3. Prefer something off a big car - i.e. Nissan Patrol size etc.
4. Must be sourceable - i.e. don't suggest a Ferrari Box (i just sold my last one to someone else).

And, Ideally:

Your suggestion would come with a few ideas or solutions about how to make it work with the pitman arm / drag link setups etc.

Oh - one more thing - It will be running standard wimpy diffs still with the standard wimpy knuckles so i have the ball joint / tapered end stuff to think about still.

Note: I don't car about chassis mounts - they will all be new anyhoo - so the bolt pattern definately does not need to be suzuki

Thanks in advance,
Greg

It's had it's fair share of broken bits, now it just needs some lockers.

Grimbo's car don't you mean tool rack.

Sorry about taking this off topic.

How does the hilux PS box work?

why not forward facing on the outside ? your diffs to narrow and tires would rub the box?

if you can fit it id go 60 series im doin it atm

the 60 is forward facing and on the outside but u can move your diff alot futher forward and not worry bout steering

u still have the shackles out front so i dont think u should have any troubles with the pitman arm hitting the springs on compression

if you do end up goin this way i know of a good right up that i can send the link

I wanted it on the inside of the chassis to keep it away from the tyres.

If it is outside and forward pitman - it will be where the shock towers and bump stops would like to be.

Use an IFS hilux box.

Easy to get, sits outside the rail, has rear facing pitman arm, and will outperform a sierra powersteer box without even being plumbed up! I am fitting one to mine in the next 2 weeks, so I will post pics then. I am also using a feroza? hilux hybrid steering arm ( has a slip joint in it!)

Pics to come....
