Greetings,
I've done about 2500km since I became a proud Pajero owner, having never had a mitzi before. Its a 3.5 5 Speed SWB and is great fun. Its a NJ with 80 000km on the dial.
It had new oil in it 2500km ago and while I can't gaurantee how full it was when they changed it, I know it has been steadily declining to the point its nearly at the min mark. I can see it leeks a bit from the rocker covers, but not enough to drip or anything.
I have never seen it burn oil and with a weekend long 4wd trip last wekend, no vehicle behind saw any smoke. I guess it must be being burnt though.
Is this usage normal and if not is there anyway to slow this usage by changing oils etc and is there a recommended oil for the DOHC?
cheers
Glen

DOHC Oil Consumption

My 135000k 3.5 DOHC uses oil too - but mine has worn valve stem seals
IE if you let it idle for a while and then blip the throttle a puff off oil smoke appears
Different oil doesn't seem to make any difference
