may have finaly found a vit at the right price should i buy?

Post by Andrew81 »

As some people know i've been considering buying a vit. I'd pretty much given up after a few months of looking. Only once every couple weeks a hard top comes up for under $6000 and all the ones i've looked at either havn't been looked after well or have done over 300 000km.
A good mate at work friend has one for sale. Called him tonight, 92 SWB power windows, cent lock, new clutch, 200,000km.
He'll take around $3000 so thinking $2800
Bad points are is black, paint on bonet and roof is a bit stuffed and no aircon.
Good points- cheap, genuine, is owned by a school teacher- no mods never really been off road.
I've pretty much decided to buy it, sounds like a bargain just wondering what other people think. I always told myself i'd never buy a black car though :P
Any one know how hard and expensive installing aircon is?

Doesn't sound bad. Hunt around and you can pick up A/C pretty cheap. I got mine out of a 1/2 cut and had it installed on a swb for under $500. Just check the mounting system for the condenser as there are a couple of variations.

Black looks good - but gets scratched a bit easy off road.

Aircon... bah.... you wuss. Probably buy the bits for aircon for about $500, probably cost you about that much again to fit it and gas it. That's gonna be your normal quote - you may be able to get it cheaper.

Vitaras with aircon go for a LOT more as a girly car.

Being a hardtop it's more likely to be EFI. Is it? For the price sounds like it isnt, but maybe it's got P/S to go with the power windows.

Now go and visit gonzo with the grinder :D

What's the plans from here? Near normal or freakified like mine was and gonzo and antt's are?

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at it on the weekend. I'd be very suprised if it's efi. I havn't seen an efi model bellow $6000.
What is the AC like on these, does it make them too gutless having it on?
Sounds like if i decide i want it i could set it up fairly cheap- $300 for the set up, can get it gassed for about $75 by a friend.

As far as my plans i don't want to "freakify" it. Not looking for a rock crawler. Just a cheap economical car that i can still get on the beach and through the dunes with, maybe some mild bush tracks.
Probably a bit of a lift, bigger tyres (not to panel changing size), maybe a front locker if i can find one cheap. I know that US site that the sierra guys are getting lockers from have a rear cheap but havn't seen a front.

After that hopefully it will be fairly capable and might quiten a few of the girls car payouts i'm already starting to get :P

30" rubber or 31" will fit without butchery depending on levels of lift. That and a locker will make it tought enough that you should be happy with it.

You'll still get called a girl for driving a vitara no matter what.... even when you beat them.

dude, just buy it.

when i got mine, it was worth no where near the $4800 asking, but seeing as i got it for $2000, i still had a lot of work to do. so if u can get urs for $2800ish, then what are you waiting for? like you said, it has power windows and central locking, maybe power steer? none of which i have ever had. if its all legit and genuine, then why wouldn't you buy it.

i wanted air con in mine, and the $300-$500 sounds about right, but i just couldn't afford to get it all piped and fitted and stuff. that money would go a lot further if it were going to a locker.

sounds like a good bargain, and if it were me, and it were that price, i'd buy it straight away, and have a hard top and a soft top.

Yeah I thought the efi was 94 or 95.

I've decided if it's as my friend describes i'll buy it. I'll probably be looking into mods this time next week :P

Just the amout i'll save in less fuel and cheaper rego and insurance will probably pay for the car within a year.

I was just looking on the suzisprt site first susp i found was a kit to lower the vit

If i beat them in a car that cost 1/10 the amount they can call me a girl all they like, i know who'll be feeling like the girl :P

Just got back from looking at it. Paint on the roof and bonnet is stuffed, other than that is very straight and couldn't find any rust.
He said he'd take $2800, told him i'd like to get a mechanic to check a few things and if is ok i'll take it.
Seemed fairly gutless so my first plans maybe changed to exhaust, air filter and tune. Do these mods work well? Anything else i should consider to get a bit more power?
I've seen cams and other power bits available for these, anyone have sugestions?

exaust can be good depends what set up you want cus there are 2 ways you can go one set up gives better high end power and the other better low - mid end power has some thing to do with the length of the header or some thing im sure some one here knows all about it
