exhaust fumes

Post by Maverick »

hello all, gee what a great source of info on the feroza. I have just have bought a 92 SPV - Soft top as a bit of a surf bus any way with the roof off and on i cop a whaft of exhaust fumes every now and then. its very sulphery in its smell as i sort of expected with a ULP car.

fuel economy is about 500ks to about 46 litres, the guage is a bit iffy i think. any way should i cop this exhaust smell or is there something wrong

cheers

had the same a while ago, checked the exhaust and pressure tested it. Found out that there were to tiny holes in the rusty exhaust that let gases through. welded the holes and the smell was gone. If nothing turns out to be wrong with the exhaust check your sparkies also, to see if anything internal is wrong. Like Inka said, guess you have to cope with a little fumes due to the magnificent aerodynamics of a 4b

My old feroza was the same but only with the back up and to some degree with the whole back section off and sunroof on.

It did it with the old exhaust and still after i got a whole new system.

Just put it down to the fact that, especially when you have the back only rolled up you create a suction effect sucking air in the back. you fill notice hair etc whatever moves forward toward windscreen.

I was always going to try extending the tail pipe a bit further and put on one of those tips that face the ground. Don't know if this would have worked though.

I found with it all off including the sunroof i could not smell anything as air flows in through the sunroof and out the back.

My 2 cents

if i remember reading the owner's manual, it states somewhere in there to not drive with the rear glass removed (hard top), hard top intact, and windows closed as it would suck in exhuast. so i assume it would do the same with only the back section rolled up on a soft top...?
